Rose & Crown dessert for Illuminations?

Can I get an ADR just to eat dessert at Rose & Crown? Is there a minimum amount of money I need to spend?

Would people consider it rude if I just got dessert at R&C to get a spot to watch Illuminations? If I stayed at my table for, say, an hour, would a waiter probably ask me to leave?

Has anyone done this personally -- eaten only dessert at Rose & Crown to watch Illuminations from there?

Thanks,

I would consider it rude to hold a table for an hour for just dessert at a prime time. You should at least give the waiter a good tip to make up for what he lost not having a table with a full meal.

And just be aware it doesn't mean that you would get a table outside for Illuminations. If you make an ADR and request a table outside and they say they don't have one and you ask if you can wait, you will give up your ADR time.

Although I would think it's very rude and not to be encouraged, apparently Disney seems to feel comfortable promoting it on TV. Has anyone watched "The Fan's Guide to WDW"? There's one couple who eats dinner at Yachtsman's Steakhouse, then goes to Rose and Crown to watch Illuminations. I always wonder about giving people the idea that that's an OK thing to do.

I wouldn't do it. But people do.:rolleyes1

I, honestly, don't see anything wrong with it. If you are a paying customer and want to have a special dessert, while enjoying the fireworks, that's your business. You are not cheating anyone of anything or cutting in line. It's no different than those of us, that go to a signature restaurant, take up a table seating and only order dessert- it's done to create memories and for the experience  Good Luck with your ressies and enjoy your vacation:goodvibes

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Now I've got something to think about.

:thumbsup2

Or why not make the experience even more special and order a meal?

Its your vacation, if you are able to get a table for Illuminations and only want dessert - then why not. I think though that the tables outside are on a first come first served basis right? Enjoy the world!!!

I'm not seeing a problem. I made an ADR for dessert only for a different restaurant--I just made sure that I told the dining CM that that's what I was doing. She said it was perfectly fine and people do it all the time.

Basically if your R&C reservation is after 7:30 it is very unlikely that you would get an outside table. If you get there at around 7:00 to 7:30 you can stretch your drinks, appetizer and entree so they you are getting your dessert around the time IllumiNations starts.

Yeah, I think it would be really tough to pull off. Only 40% of the tables are outside (and not all of them have a good view of the lagoon). When we went for dinner we had no intention of having an Illuminations dinner - we made a 5:30 reservation. Service was so slow, we were seated late with a reservation that early (and there was an accident - the waiter dropped a pitcher of water, shattering wine glasses and necessitating bringing out new entrees for everyone, but still) that we were leaving after 8:00 pm. We could have EASILY stretched dessert and coffee into Illuminations with a 5:30 reservation! (But had kids that had been ready to leave since 7:00, so weren't at all interested in that).

We did however get to watch the behavior of the crowd that started showing up for 7:00 dinner reservations - they were definitely camping out.

I wouldn't mind standing for Illuminations. I've read that you can hang out on the patio to watch the show if you like.

I'd have dinner there except that my partner is from Europe and he's used to eating a big midday meal and just a snack for dinner, which works for me, too. Maybe we can change our eating schedule that night, and call it part of the international experience of EPCOT World Showcase.

But if you are going to do that, why not just hang and stand by the rail at the gazillon other good viewing places in Epcot? You don't have to worry about the ADR, get up from the table in the middle of dessert.

We've never had any trouble finding a decent place to watch Illuminations from without staking out a spot for 40 minutes.

The only way they will allow you on the patio during IllumiNations is if you are dining in the restaurant, either inside or outside.

I agree 100%. If the restaurant excepts dessert only reservations, than why is rude? If it's one wants to experience/do at that restaurant and dthey are able to get the ressie, than why should it bother anyone else? If that person calls in advance and secures that time, what they do with that time at the table is their business. After all, it is vacation....enjoy!

I say if they'll accept an ADR for just dessert go for it!

You're still a paying customer. Definitely don't feel as if you're cheating the waiter/waitress out of a huge tip. There are plenty of families right here on these boards that state they only order just an appetizer or two as their meal or split a single entree among two or three (or more people) and don't order anything else and they wouldn't feel guilty about getting an ADR. If you each order dessert with one or two drinks to drag out your time then your bill could be just as high if not higher as these people's bills.:wizard:

However, it is one thing to take two hours or so for drinks, appetizer, main course and desserts and another to tie up a table for two hours and have desserts only.

Looking at R&C Menu dinner would run about $40++ per person while desserts and coffee would be less than $10++ per person.

How much will you tip if you take two hours to do desserts?

I work at the R&C and we don't accept reservations for dessert only sorry, plus there is no guarantee that you would get an outside table anyway.

But if someone has an ADR, sits down, and just orders dessert, you don't kick them out. You take their dessert order.

And until Disney decides to enforce a per person minimum, they can't enforce "no ADRs for desserts." I suspect that will come for R&C and CG fairly soon since it certainly isn't in Disney's best interest to tie up a prime table for two hours so a table of four can split the toffee pudding for $6 and see Illuminations.
