Rose & Crown - are they kidding?

Just looked at the new Rose & Crown menu. Can this be right - they're offering only ONE entree for kids at dinner? What's up with this? Don't our kids deserve a selection to choose from for dinner also? If this is the way it's going to be, I know we'll cross this place off our list of favorites! How about anyone else?

Until we get first-hand verification, I'm operating under the assumption that this is simply an error, like the cheese plate being listed as an entree on the California Grill menu. I know the kids menus aren't fabulous, but I can't imagine they'd cut back to only one choice.

Is there anyone out there who has been recently to confirm this?

To find the menu, go to the top of this thread page, click on Disney restaurants, and there is a link for all disney restaurant menus.

if you donnt go to the rose and crown ...donnt cry..you arnt missing anything good..

When we went in June, the kids had a choice of mac & cheese, cottage pie, and bangers & mash. It would be crazy to only offer one kids meal. Must be a mistake. I concur with canron. It's not one of the better Disney dining options.

Are you bringing others with you? I see your kids are 13 and 11...wouldn't they need to eat off the adult menu since they are over 9???:confused3

Most TS restaurants are pretty flexible about still allowing my kids to order off the kids menu. They're not big eaters. But it's up to each individual restaurant as to if they will allow it. I haven't had a problem yet. But, at buffets, we are charged the adult price - no and, ifs, or buts!

Chalk another one up for the Disney Dining Plan. As long as they keep doing the dining plan, and offering free dining at various times of the year, the quality of food and the variety/selection will suffer.

Just my .02. :)

I get it now. Good luck! We used to eat at the Rose & Crown a quite a bit but haven't made it there the last couple years. We may try it again this year but I'm a little worried about the reviews as of late.

I would not worry about the reviews. Remember, most people who have a wonderful experience never say a word. It's the ones who have the bad experience (and often the minority) who are vocal.

We have always loved Rose and Crown for the wonderful food and the attentive service. Is it 5 star cuisine, no, but it is good English comfort food. This is a place we dine every year, and we would be disappointed if we missed it.

:thumbsup2

Well, I'm glad you like it. The service is good, the beer is good, the view is superb. But my experience with the food is that it is fair at best and poor at worst.

Just my view, of course!

I agree - the food is fair at best. But we still went every year because we always managed to get a table outside for prime Illuminations viewing - and, of course, the beer is gooood!:drinking1

While I don't mind the traditional English food - Bangers&Mash; Fish&Chips; my kids were not so adventurous and always found something not so "British" to enjoy. I hope this new menu is mistaken and there are more selections added for kids!

I was always of the same opinion as you until my visit there about a week ago. The soup was yummy, the beer was good, but the fish and chips....inedible. Literally inedible. I took one bite and that was it. Two other travelling companions ordered it and they felt the same so it wasn't just me. It's off my list now except for the beer. That's still good. :)

we were looking at the menu too and with my son being such a picky eater, as am I at times ;) , I decided to cancel my ressie and try dinner in Italy.

I keep seeing all these "picky eater" comments. Why not use this to TRY SOMETHING NEW??? Honestly...my parents were all about exposing my sister and me to as many varied foods and dining experiences as they could. We were never allowed to be picky. Whatever happened to TRY something? Especially when you're on the dining plan, so it's not like you're wasting money as if you were getting an actual check. Be adventerous and encourage your children to.

I think it's this whole self-indulgent "Oh, s/he's picky so we won't eat anywhere there's not X, Y or Z" is WHY so many foreign restaurants are becoming "Americanized". They have to or else they wouldn't survive because or "picky eaters".

Sorry for the rant, but come on.

Just to let you know, the new Italian restaurant is not dumbed down, Americanized-Italian food (i.e. spaghetti and meatballs, chicken parm, etc.) like it used to be. So, if you're a picky eater, you might want to check the menu first. Looks more authentic.

I agree with posters who had poor food (and service) at Rose & Crown. We ate there in June and were excited about the menu. We usually like traditional British food. But, the food was poor to average at best, and the service was horrible. We waited, and waited for our waitress to bring our menus. Then we waited and waited for her to bring our drinks. Again, we waited and waited for her to bring our meals, and had planned to order dessert (it was our 30th anniversary). We waited and waited, but by the time our waitress returned to our table we were just plain tired of waiting, so we asked for the check. And we waited, and waited.....!:confused3

Mr. & Mrs. Smith, thanks for the heads up, we did check out the menu and the food looks wonderful!!! My sis-in-law is from a hge Italian family so Sunday visits are usually simular.
As far as trying new foods, I am the first one to step up to the plate, as is my son who has been eating sushi since he was 6, and try new foods on occasion. However being that I will be 4 months pregnant during our stay and learning from my first child that my stomach will not tolarate certains foods, I want to keep it some what safe just in case. Thanks for the heads up, I do appreciate the concerns and suggestions and yes even the rants. :thumbsup2

Obviously verticalchaos does not have children.;)

My kids are open to trying new things. But when we're on vacation and paying good money for dinner (no, we're not on the DDP;never said we were), I'm going to make sure my kids are eating something for dinner that they like and will finish. They can "try" things off my plate. Alot of us are not fortunate enough to order food regardless of cost & whether we even will like it!

Don't know if you've read the WHOLE thread, but the point was that Rose&Crown seems to be offering only one selection off the kids' menu - Bangers & Mash. I don't know about the rest of you parents out there, but the last thing I want to do on my vacation is force-feed my kids food they may not like. Just would like a CHOICE!
