We are planning to do the Candelight Procession this December. From the restaurants we have to choose from, the only one we haven't been to is Rose and Crown. How is the food, atmosphere? Should we try it, or just stick with one of our familiar restaurant favorites? Any help would be great! TIA :)

Three years ago I would have said yes, but the food quality and choices are now very unappealing so I'd say no.
Although..........if you're only getting simple stuff like the fish and chips then you'd probably be ok.

Best of luck deciding!

I know the reviews are mixed at Rose & Crown, but we go every trip (last visit was May, 2010). DH likes the Fish & Chips, and the fish has always been cooked well (not greasy or soggy). I typically swap between the Fish & Chips, Bangers and Mash, and Cottage Pie. All have been good. I also like the Scotch Egg app, if it is still there.

We've had good meals at R & C and some were so-so. We've been eating there for 15 years on about half our trips. We have lunch more than dinner.

On our last trip, it was just wonderful and the service very good. The menu has improved over the years, I think.

We like it but we like the simple food. Bangers and Mash for me and Fish for DS and we're happy.

I was going to say the same thing! I agree the fish and chips would probably still be okay. The bangers and mash I tasted were different and not quite as good and the cottage pie, which was my fave, tasted horrible. I didn't even finish most of it.

Tried if for 1x in March, as we just had no desire to go there, but after eating pretty much everywhere, hubby said we need to go and find out for ourselves. We had a yucky meal:

- ants marching across table
- smelled in restaurant and it was dirty
- food was undercooked (raw burgers)
- server disappeared, and was virtually non-existent

We won't be going back, Tiger

This is one of only two restaurants we've tried in 20+ years at WDW that we will not return to. Both our entrees were horrible and its still hard to believe that they could mess up a beer sampler but they did. A strong Nay from us.

DH and I went to R&C last Oct., for lunch, and enjoyed it. DH had the shrimp appie and fish and chips. I had the scotch egg (which was wonderful) and the fish and chips. The sticky pudding is yummy.

We had a very attentive server, so no prblem there. My only complaint......we were the first ADR to check in for lunch, yet they tried to seat us in the sun, on the veranda, on a 95 degree day. I asked the hostess for inside seating and tho she was not pleased and made us wait.....we did get a very comfy-cool seat inside.

we go every year and eat there at least twice each trip.

we always split the fish and chips, sausage and cheese board and the sticky toffee pudding....it's one of our favorite meals.

also the Imperial beer flight is really good.

Getting seated on the patio is a great way to spend the afternoon.

Thanks for all the info! I'll talk it over with the family, and we'll see what happens. Thanks again everyone :)

We did it several years ago for the first time with the Candlelight Processional package, and now it's our favorite restaurant on property. Everyone has always been very friendly to us there, and we've never had a meal that was anything but wonderful.

One of our favorite places in Epcot, and some of the friendliest CM's in all of "the world".

I say try it... The English atmosphere is very "Christmasy" as well...

P.S. Make sure to try the "scotch egg" Delish !

we ate there in september 2009 and really enjoyed it. i had the fish and chips. i liked it so much that i made it a point to get some fish and chips from the stand in UK this june!

We ate there last week and loved it. My husband and I both had the surf & turf, and both the fish and steak were excellent. I love the atmosphere...we were seated close to the pub, so we could hear the pub crowd and the Hat Lady. It was a LOT of fun. My son even loved it.

YAY
I've been eating there for 25 years and love it. Their menu changes more than most, and I've yet to try something I didn't love. I've eaten inside, outside, just about everywhere there is. I've never seen a sign of ants, filth or bad temperament from the staff, and I've been a professional cook since 1982. I notice these things.
And then there's the Guinness...
