We haven't eaten here before. We'll be on DDP. :cool1: What do you rec. for appetizer, entree, and dessert? TIA

when we ate there we had their potato soup for an appetizer and then dh had their steak and fish and he loved it!! the steak was very tender, i had their cottage pie and then the dessert i had the celebration and dh had the apple pie and he loved that also,

At our Rose and Crown dinner, we had the Lamb and Barley soup as an appetizer (AMAZING!!), DH ate the Fish and Chips for his dinner and I had the Bangers and Mash, and for dessert we had the Sticky Toffee Pudding and the Bailey's Irish Creme Brulee (which sadly isn't on the menu anymore :( ). Everything we ate was incredible and delicious. I don't know if you can really go wrong with anything there! :teeth:

Oh, if you're a drinker, I hiiiighly recommend the Black Velvet -- it's half Guinness and half champagne. Sounds weird, but is wonderful!!

We Loved the fish and chips, and my husband thought the cottage pie was as good as what we had in London on our honeymoon! We skipped dessert, but enjoyed the cheese plate for appt.

I had the lamb and barley soup for an appetizer, then the steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, Yorkshire pudding, and for dessert the sticky toffee pudding. Everything was great but I could have made a meal and been in heaven with just huge bowl of that lamb and barley soup. It was devine.

There were two ladies sitting next to me that just kept raving about the leek soup and the bangers and mash. We got to talking about who had the better meal.

We visited the Rose and Crown during Christmas several years ago and the entire evening was amazing. A lovely young lady was offering hot chocolate to those of us waiting outside to be seated. DGD and I accepted and I thought it was a very nice gesture. The rest of our group indulged in various ales and spirits purchased from the vendor on the sidewalk. After being seated, YDD (younger daughter) had a grand time chatting with our server, Ian. She'd just returned from a semester in England and Scotland and thought herself an authority on all things pretaining to the UK. Let me take this opportunity to warn you about an alcoholic beverage called the English Rose. The drink is beautful, a lovely rose color, delicate but deceptive. Not sure what was in it and I further admit to not being much of a drinker but the rose definitely left me a little giddy.
We were a group of 5 adults and one child and for appetizers we had the prawn cocktail, the lamb and barley soup, the fruit and cheese plate and the potato leek soup. I had a mushroom filled pastry that may not be offered any longer. There were absolutely no complaints. We all thoroughly enjoyed our selections in spite of having to listen to YDD give a cheese seminar, while making noises of gastric appreciation that I probably would have preferred not to hear if I hadn't been under the influence of the rose.
Entrees consisted of Grilled Steak (DH and DSIL), Beef Stew (older DD), Chicken Pasty (DGD and Nana...that's me) and Bangers and Mash (YDD). YDD was favorably comparing her entree to those enjoyed in the UK and insisted that we all try some. The thing I found amusing about this was that had I ever served a comparable dish at home she would have given me the patented "you've got to be kidding" look. Again, everyone enjoyed their food. I really liked the Chicken Pasty, it was very filling without being heavy. DD and DSIL were impressed with their steaks. ODD (now there's an abbreviation I can appreciate) thought the flavor of the Guinness flavored stew was wonderful but refrained from shouting, "Brilliant!", as her sister was monopolizing the commentary portion of our meal.
Desserts were Apple Crumble (DH, DSIL, DGD and Nana) very filling and flavorful, Chocolate Guinness cake (ODD-she'd found her flavor of choice and was sticking to it). She let me try some, it was incredible! YDD had the Toffee Pudding, probably because it sounded the most English and thought it was very good.
We were finishing up just as Illuminations started and there couldn't have been a more spectacular end to an evening of great food.

2nd best comment during Illuminations.....
(ODD) " Oh, were so close I can feel the heat from the fireworks."
(YDD) " Yeah, or it could be the heat lamp your under."

Best comment....
(DGD) " Oh Nana that's the most beautifulest thing I've ever seen!"

Go and enjoy! But watch out for that rose!

Since DH is from England, this is his must-do restaurant at Epcot and we always enjoy it.

I recommend the fruit and cheese plate (mainly because I love Stilton and this is the only place I can ever find it.) I usually get the bangers and mash--sausages and mashed potatoes with the yummiest onion gravy. DD likes the fish and chips and DH had the cottage pie last time and thought it was great.

We usually get the trifle for dessert. Yummy. Now I'm starving. :teeth:

Enjoy your trip!

We tried the Rose and Crown for the first time last year since coming almost yearly since 1995. I can't believe we never tried it. We liked it so much we ate here a second time during our two week stay.

This place is fabulous.

I had the Potato Leek Soup both Times and DH had the Lamb and Barley. They were both WONDERFUL.

I had the Bangors and Mashed both times. It was so tasty I still think about this meal. I can't wait to go back this year and try it again. This was a nice sized dish of total comfort type foods. Very flavorable!

DH had the Sheppards Pie one time and the Guiness Stew the next. He raved about both. The kids had the Fish and Chips and enjoyed them!

We did not have dessert.

Bread is also served at the beginning of the meal.

We love Rose and Crown and go there at least twice every trip! My DH and kids are so picky but they look forward to the cottage pie there and the leek soup. I have tried many items and can't pick a favorite since they are all very good.
Service has always been friendly too. And if your lucky enough to get seating for the fireworks then that's a huge bonus!

My best friend and I ate at Rose & Crown December of 2005 with the Candlelight Processional Dinner Package and we loved it! We were seated out on the patio (though a little too early for Illuminations). For the appetizer I had the stewed mushrooms and she had the fruit and cheese plate. We both still talk about how good these both were. Then I had the cottage pie (fabulous) and she had the fish and chips (also very good). For dessert we both had the sticky toffee pudding which was delicious but very rich. We were both almost too full to finish. We loved Rose & Crown and are a little dissapointed that we are not eating here in September, but there comes a time when we must try new things! Le Cellier here we come!

We ate at the Rose and Crown on our anniversary trip last month. It was our first visit and the food was wonderful. DH and I both had the steak dinner and it was SOOO tender. The most tender steak we have had in a while. DH had the lamb and barley soup and thought it was wonderful. I had the stewed mushrooms, but only after talking to our server. It was actually a cream of mushroom soup. It was VERY good. The only problem with the dinner was my mashed potatoes. they were SO salty. DH asked me why I wasn't eating them, and when I told him and he tasted mine, he said his were fine. (of course, he had already eaten all of his)
We both had the chocolate guiness cake for dessert. It was more than we could eat.

I love Rose and Crown. That being said, the next time I go, I'm just getting some really good English beer and the mushrooms. To call this mushroom soup isn't quite right, but perhaps stew - it's the single most delicious thing I've ever had at WDW.

KC :sunny:

Steak and fish :thumbsup2 I hope it isn't as noisy for you ...it was pretty obnoxious when we were there...I am not one to get annoyed easily, but I was ready to tell this lady to shut up.... she was DRUNK.

Thanks for all the great comments! :goodvibes I never thought of trying the lamb and barley soup but you all made it sound so good! One question-is it very lamby? I like lamb (like chops and riblets) as long as they don't have that extra lambiness.

Keep 'em coming-I've gotten so hungry reading all these that it's time for lunch-Panera Bread here I come! :cool1:

:disrocks:

I recommend Harp for an appetizer -- relatively light, crisp, and refreshing. Better than any salad. Then Guinness for your soup course. It's as thick as clam chowder, and twice as healthy. ("Guinness is good for you.") For an entree, try the Bass. If they bring you fish, tell them to get serious. For dessert, the Woodpecker Cider is a refreshing palate cleanser.

They serve non-liquid food too, but the Brits aren't very good at it. ;)

The lamb and barley soup is good, but the stewed mushrooms are outstanding! I wouldn't call it mushroom soup, either - more like mushrooms in a cream sauce. So so delcious. The Guinness beef stew has an amazing flavor, and the sticky toffee pudding is great.

Very funny rejobako  -took me a minute to figure out what you were saying :rotfl2: . Unfortunately (or is it fortunately?) I'm not much of a drinker and I don't like beer (or wine) at all :confused3 . However, my DM does like a good glass of dark wine every now and then (or is it every night :rotfl:). Even so, we don't find ourselves drinking adult beverages much when we do WDW.

It looks like several of you rec. the mushrooms. (thanks litebrite, stauncie, kingdomheartsfan, and kcmiller) I'll get my DM to order them (she loves mushrooms! :lovestruc ) and then I can taste them too! I like mushrooms, but she loves them.

I was thinking of the steak and fish entree and the either the Sticky Toffee Pudding or chocolate cake for dessert. I think we'll order both and share that way we'll get the best of both worlds. :goodvibes

Our ADR are at 7:30. That should put us there at just the right time for Illuminations, shouldn't it?

My DS LOVED the curried vegetable main dish. A great selection for veggie fans! And I enjoyed the Steak and Yorkshire pudding.
