Rose and Crown vs. Le Cellier

I only have room for one of these restaurants in our schedule for next year and I'm really torn. It is just my mom and I, so no kids. Neither of us eat red meat, but love chicken and fish. I really like the idea of being able to watch IllumiNations from Rose and Crown, but is the food at Le Cellier too good to pass up? What do you all think I should book? TIA

We did Rose and Crown and LeCellier at the end of August. LeCellier is really a step above Rose and Crown. The scallops and the salmon at LeCellier is very good and more elegant than the fish and chips at Rose and Crown, plus milk shakes at LeCellier if you are on the dining plan. LeCellier is nicer than Rose and Crown unless... you want to see Illuminations which you can't see from LeCellier. I would choose LeCellier.

I would have to agree that LeCellier is a step up from Rose & Crown. But, I guess it really depends on how much you want to watch IllumiNations from Rose & Crown. If you've never watched it from there, I'd go with Rose & Crown.

I don't believe I've ever eaten any food that is truely too good to pass up. Yes, there is delicious food out there, but too good to pass up? Nah! Note that I am trying to get my very first ADR at Le Cellier for my upcoming trip and I haven't actually eaten there yet, but I still have trouble imagining any food that would be so good that my vacation just wouldn't be the same without experiencing it (I've made it through several vacations without having eaten there).

I'm more about the experience for dining as long as the food is good. If you like the sound of any of the food at Rose & Crown then I'd say go for the Illuminations seating.

I think what it comes down to is this. Which is more important to you, the experience or the higher end food? Only you can answer this.

Sorry a little OT, but I've never eaten at Rose & Crown. Does all the seating have a view for Illuminations and if so, what time do you try to get your ADR for?

I've eaten at both. If I had to chose, it would definitely be Le Cellier! However, I did enjoy my meal at R&C.

We have eaten at Rose and Crown three times so far. The past two times have been during Illuminations. I believe our first time that were were there for Illuminations we were outside and could see them fairly well. The second time we were seated inside and could sort of see them. Rose and Crown does however have their own special seating around the lagoon for the show. If you are dining around the same time, your server will ask if you would like to go out for the show and you are led to their roped off area. As for what time to make you ADR's, I would suggest maybe an hour to an hour and a half before it starts.

I know, this is getting long...but I also suggest that if you would like to try Le Cellier, go for it. Make it a lunch and then head over to Yorkshire Fish and Chips and grab fish and chips for dinner and grab a seat in the area along the lagoon next to the shop. This is in my opinion the best place to see Illuminations. My DH and I did something similar during our honeymoon. We had our first Disney lunch at Rose and Crown and then later that night got a fish and chips and sat down by the lagoon to watch Illuminations.

Le Cellier is definitely a step up from R&C in my family's opinion! We've eaten at R&C a couple of times and enjoyed it but we really love Le Cellier and eat there every trip if we can get an ADR.

Counting on seeing Illuminations from R&C is pretty iffy. Not all seats have views I don't think. I know the outside table we had last time we ate there had a limited view. They do have an outside viewing area - it was wall-to-wall people!

Another vote for Le Cellier from a veteran of both, but you might want to check out the menus for each before you decide. The R&C has some very English (or is it British?) dishes you might not get elsewhere and this would be your only chance to try them.
