I have a dining reservation at Rose and Crown for 7:30pm. I chose that time as I wanted to space out my meals a bit...not even thinking about the show.

I have been reading on these threads that the patio there is a hot spot for Illuminations. Is the patio something you have to ask for when making the reservation? Is it just luck of the draw when you get there? I wont be disappointed if I dont get it, but trying wouldnt hurt either!

TIA

A large part of teh seating at R&C is outside so the odds are in your favor to be outside. You can't ask for your initial reservation to be outside but when you check in I did one year and it was longer wait but still go outside. Not sure if they still allow people to have that preferance but I would assume they do.

Ask for the patio when you check in at the podium outside for your ADR. They will tell you that you may have to wait longer to get it than if you accept a table inside. It is worth the wait.

Don't think they allow waiting anymore -- in 2009 when we were in line to check in for our ADR, they were telling people there was no waiting for a patio seat -- either take the table that's available when your name is called, or nothing. They said it's just pure luck if you get a view-seat or not...if that kind of table opens, you'll get it...if it's an inside table, you'll get that. There actually is quite a bit of inside seating there -- there's the little room just off the pub, but there's a larger room over on the side. Can't hurt to ask, but be prepared for possibility of no.

Catne is correct; apparently things got out of hand with people waiting for patio seating :teeth:. Guests dining inside will be escorted out to a roped-off section outdoors to watch IllumiNations if they wish, as long as they're still dining (unlike California Grill, where you can go back up to the outdoor deck with your same-evening receipt after an early dinner, to view Wishes).

It was January of 2010 when we waited for a patio view table for dinner at Rose n Crown.

We have reservations for 5 people, anyone know the breakdown of the table size inside vs outside? I've never paid much attention before as we were always a party of 4. Thanks!

Correct. They will no longer allow you to ask for outside seating. If you ask and they tell you that you cannot and you say you don't mind waiting they will still tell you that you must take the table given to you or feel free to eat elsewhere (we've heard this on three occasions at least). There is a "general area" on the patio where you can go and stand to watch Illimuniations if you so choose.

I would have to disagree that "a large part of the seating is outside." That's definitely not the case. There's a restaurant with tables inside and a patio with outside seating. The inside seating outnumbers the seating on the patio. They do not reserve outdoor tables at the time of the reservation, rather it's first come first serve even with a reservation.

Last August when we ate there it was raining so there were no patio seats available. However, they let you get up and watch Illuminations if you request it and theysaved dessert for us to eat after the show. However, I was not all that impressed with the view from Rose and Crown ... too many trees obstructing the view. There are many better places to view the show. Just MHO. :cool2:

We have had seats outside and thought the view was great. Once for NYE fireworks and a few times for regular Illuminations. The last trip was in Jan. 2010 and we asked for a table inside. It was so cold outside we would not have enjoyed our meal. Right before dessert we went outside and there were empty tables and we sat out there. We ask for a table outside and they always tell us if one is available, we have been lucky with our request. Only one time we had a terribel table inside near the pub. It was noisy.

Anyone know how crowded the roped off section can be? I wouldn't mind sitting in AC, then popping outside for the show without looking for a space ahead of time.
