Has anyone eaten at Rose & Crown just before the Ill. show and sat on the porch to see the show. Like to hear your experience.

We were at Rose & Crown during Illuminations in 2001. You need to get PS ahead and be very specific about time. They really don't want "hanging around." Depending on when you go (time of year) will determine when dusk is and is it a peak time? It was a great experience. DH loves this restaurant and the kids really enjoyed the show. I have to say I thought our Illuminations cruise was far superior in view but then again more costly.
Good luck

In April of 2001, I walked up to the podium and got a table on the patio at about 7:30. It was me and a girlfriend. We did not have a PS. It was the week after Easter and not too busy. The show is worth the price of one day admission, IMO. Although you can't see the full effect from that angle, and with the trees getting so big aroung the lagoon, I don't know where the best spot to see everything is, but the patio is nice.

I understand that depending on how busy it is, even with PS at the "right time", you can ask for patio seating but it may not be available. There have been times where people who are seated inside were able to go out to the patio and stand to see Illuminations, but that is not always the case.

I have PSs for next month and am hoping for the patio. If I get it, great, if not, I love the pub atmosphere and will be happy to have a great meal there, anyway.

We were just there June 30th, we had PS for 8:00, arrive 30min early and asked for patio. It was nice, but if you are under the awning you really can only see what is on the water. My DD 10 went and stood by the railing and had a good view, but my DH and myself did not want to bother the people that had tables right by the railing so we didn't see much. Of course we go there for the food so it was not that big of a deal.

We did schedule Ohana's for the 4th of July which did not turn out very good. Our Ps was for 8:15, we arrived there 30min ahead but still did not get seated until right at 9:00. When everyone went to the front where the windows were it was hard to see and there were alot of dirty looks from the some of the people at the tables even though everyone was standing behind them so their view was not blocked.

The next time we want to see a specific show we will not try and coordinate dinning it.

I've had pretty good luck getting a patio table at Rose and Crown. I make my PS for 7:30, go about 20 minutes early, put on a really sugary-sweet face, and tell them that I would LOVE to sit on the patio. So far so good. I'm trying it again in a few weeks and am praying for the same results.

I was there on Monday. Arrived at 6:45 p.m. for my PS. Didn't ask for an outdoor table (mainly because I thought we'd be done far before Illuminations began) but was seated immediately at a table next to the lagoon. By the time dinner was over (we had appetizers, entrees, and desserts), it was 8:45 p.m. We stayed for Illuminations and had a front row seat. We could see everything including the pictures on the globe crystal clear. It was the best view of Illuminations I'd ever had.

We've done this on our past 2 trips. I asked for the latest seating and a patio table. No problem with the time, but got the obligatory "you can't reserve a patio table, it's based on availability when you show up". Our first experience was unbelievable. We got the VIP table on the patio. We were told they had to hold it until 8pm, just in case, but then they could release it. Lucky us to be in the right place at just the right time. The views of Illumination were incredible. Our dessert had just been delivered when they lowered the lights and the show began. We tried this again in July 2002 and just as we were arriving for our ps, a thunderstorm rolled in. They had to move everyone off the patio and into the restaurant, so the seating times pretty much went out the window. We told the greeter that we were willing to wait it out and take our chances that the storm would pass. Nearly 45 minutes later, the sun was back out and we were placing our order from a nice patio table. It was a little more crowded and I felt a bit rushed because they were trying to get food orders in and delivered before Illuminations went off, but I wouldn't have traded it for anything.

We've been lucky enough to be seated outside on the lower tier several times. I usually make a PS for 7:30 about 120 days out. When we check in, we ask nicely if there's a chance to be seated outside (or we ask for inside if it's really cold although they do have heaters). We also don't push ahead of others as unfortunately lots of people seem to do there. Be patient and pleasant and you might luck out. It is a great view.

I think 7:30 is a good time because if you aren't lucky enough to be seated outside you should have time to have dinner (perhaps minus desserts or appetizers) and still finish before nine so you can leave and see Illuminations.
