Rope-dropping Rise lessons learned + park report

I rope-dropped Rise yesterday from the Adventureland entrance. I’ve only done that once before about a year ago. I believe that was prior to early entry. At that time, about 100-150 people beat us there. I presume they came via the Frontierland entrance. Yesterday we were among the first dozen or so from the rope. This time, however, there were several hundred people (perhaps 1000?) ahead of us. The line grew rapidly towards the Frontierland entrance. We had to walk to the end of it and with each step, the line grew by about 15 people, which was frustrating. Despite that, it only took a few minutes to get on board. That was only my fourth time riding it. Lesson learned: the next time I RD Rise, I'll enter from the Frontierland side. I'm not sure if it'll make an enormous difference but certainly it couldn't hurt.

I met a very nice couple at the rope. It was their first-ever visit to DL and they asked for some guidance, which I was happy to give. In fact, they asked if they could follow me to Rise and we compared notes afterwards (pic below).

I went to Buzz immediately after Rise. I was only able to do it six times because, of course, I was there later than usual and the line got long quickly. I didn’t do particularly well and even if I had, my scores only came through 3/6 times. As I began to walk away from the photo kiosk after my first ride, someone called my name. I turned to see the nice family I met recently with the two great kids. We did several rides together and at one point I let the daughter “have” one of my 1M+ scores (i.e. I let her put in her initials). That was nice.

I got to ride Space Mountain before its five-week refurb closure. Other than that, it was a largely uneventful day. Oh, except that I saw a great CM I know. I made vegan, gluten/sugar-free cupcakes last night and I brought her one (I know she’s a vegan). I also saw a friend who works on Star Tours. Haven’t seen her in about a month, so that was pleasant.

Lastly, on my way to tram at the end of my day (approx. 2:30) I ran into a group of six friends dressed in great costumes. Also pic below. They were very cool... as are most people at the park).

I replenished my supply of maps yesterday. If anyone would like a set, feel free to send me a DM (“Start Conversation”). Include your preferred mailing address (domestic delivery preferred).

Thanks for the report. Was wondering if you could just give some clarification. Were you waiting at the rope drop outside Jolly Holiday Bakery and then instead of going hard left toward Jungle Cruise you kind of go straight ahead toward Big Thunder, is that what you mean. Thanks

Yes, I was at the rope right at the Adventureland entrance. We went straight - past JC, IJ and then POTC. Next time I’ll go through Frontierland.

I have seen that same advice on a number of occasions here. I have also read that you ask a CM is Rise is up and running at rope drop and they will usually let you know. Great pics

And who looks happy surrounded by all those beautiful princesses???? ROB!
Love the pics, even though I’m Halloween-intolerant… :rotfl2: Maybe someday I’ll get over that and go in October if things ever settle down.

Sorry you had a bummer day with Buzz…sounds like it’s in need of a serious rehab.

Yes indeed :-).

Halloween is my favorite holiday :-). It's never disappointed me. It's also my favorite time of year. Direction of causality? Who can say ;-).

True, but only for the past six years or so ;-). I've said to a number of people that I'd hoped that some of the many (many) problems with that attraction would have been fixed during the pandemic. Or in the many months that it remained closed after the park reopened. I'm pretty sure that an engineer didn't set foot in it from the day it closed until the day that it reopened.

A few of the attraction issues (A.K.A. Rob's wish list for the the next (first?) refurb):
  • Pics/scores often don't come through. All combinations: sometimes one will come without the other.
  • Countless targets seem to stop working randomly.
  • I'll get at least two cruisers per day that have bad guns for one reason or another. For example, the gun fires but there's no laser dot. The gun fires but there's no light/sound to indicate that a target has been hit. The gun seems to work fine... except that the score doesn't accumulate.
  • Scores that exceed ≈ 2,097,000 are reset. That is, you lose all of your points and start over from zero.
  • The photos are of low resolution. The camera technology hasn't been upgraded (presumably) since the attraction opened in 2005. That is, nearly twenty years ago.
Here's hoping! ;-).

I've tried rope dropping from Andeventureland and Critter Country once post early entry and the exact same thing happened. Since the line was already out to near where the creature stall was, I didn't end up riding and this was the last time I tried rope dropping Rise.

With daily early entry going away, maybe I'll try Rise rope drop again in the future. But since Rise isn't on Genie+, I've found that lately, its line is often shorter than Genie+ attractions later on in the day so it may not really be worth the trouble of rope dropping.

I agree, we never rope dropped it but were able to ride it 3x. Probably could have done more, but felt that was good. We just watched wait times and when it got down to 50 (once it was 30) we hopped in line. The 50 minute time was never that long I would say it was more like 30. The 30 one was pretty close though. It didn't even open 2 times at rope drop when we were there.
