We've usually only stayed off site but this year we are lucky enough to have a week in a private villa followed by 2 weeks on site at old key west:cool1:
I'm hoping to drag the family along to rope drop and an opening ceremony at least once but am unsure of what to expect-what actually happens? If I know I can use it to motivate them a bit quicker (and myself) as I know the longer the holiday goes on the harder it is to get moving early!
Thanks :)

We did Magic Kingdom rope drop on Tuesday - first time ! We went through bag check and did our park tickets/ fingers and basically waited just before the arches - at 8.45 they do a little show so if you stand more central (rather than right by the rope) you get an excellent view.

We arrived at 8.35 and were a couple back from the main rope and the first to get in Fantasyland.

It is 6.40am in Florida as I write this and we are off to do Studios Rope drop today.

Done rope drop a few times and my kids loved seeing the show prior to entering park. It was great to be there early, done all that we wanted for lunch time.

We were at rope drop for all the parks at least once on our last trip. Yes MK seemed to be the only park that actually did anything. We didn't even realise it was park opening when we were at Hollywood Studios.

We have done rope drop a few times at various parks, MK from memory is the only Park where they make a big song and dance about it should we say.. DD loved this, Mickey & all the gang arrive on the Disneyworld Railway..

From what I gather on easywdw its only MK that has a rope drop ceremony now?

Yes, I believe that to be the case. Shame about the little AK 'show' not being there. It wasn't really a show as such, but a lovely way to start the day before entering the park.

Fab thanks for all the responses I especially like the sound of the MK show. How long before opening does rope drop and the ceremony happen and does it still happen even if its extra magic hours? :)

I'm determined to take the family to Rope Drop next year, thought the first day might be a good as we will be awake sooooooooo early.

What time would you say is a "good" time to get there?
