So, my questions are regarding the rope drop (something I know nothing about though it seems like I should:)) at DL:
1) Does this happen every morning?
2) Is it at the end of Main Street?
3) How early can you go through the turnstiles (sp?) before the rope drop?
My thinking is if the park opens up at 10 they start letting people through the turnstiles around 9:30 so that they can be at the end of main street by 10:00. Is this correct thinking or am I way off base?

Thanks for any clarification!! :flower3:

Just subscribing since I'm curious about this too. :goodvibes

its only ee days when the park opens for others at 9 and you at 10, then at 10 is rope drop at end the main street.
they dont let you in till 10 till 10 or something

So really, very few people actually see the actual rope drop? 10 minutes doesn't give very many people time to get to the end of main street (especially if you have to stop for a stroller:)). Thanks for the info, it's just good to have an overall sense of what's going on :cutie:

I know that there are some mornings where at least 30 minutes early, everyone is allowed into Main Street. Then when it is time for official opening, the rope drop takes place. People that have MM, are allowed into a certain park, one hour previous, to the official opening for Disneyland. There appears not to be any rhyme nor reason, for the early admittance to Main Street, regarding which days, nor when.

we were there 9/29 and 9/30, a monday and tuesday, two weeks ago. opening was at 10, but we were allowed to enter the gates at 9:30. at the end of the shops, they have a rope pulled across main street, with a CM standing up there. you can either just stand in the street (a crowd starts gathering), or mill around in the shops until the rope has dropped. there's a countdown and then they open the rope, and everyone rushes forward into the rest of the park.

That's how I've always seen it too on none EE mornings. That;s how folks get into their PSs at Carnation Cafe or Minnie's. The other folks just wait till rope drop. That is why so many stress the importance of getting in line early so that wat you are in for rope drop

We were there are three consecutive days (I don't believe there was an EE day on one of them) and they had the rope drop each of those days.

When they drop the rope they start playing "Welcome to our family time" from Phil Collins/Disney's Tarzan. Same music they play during the daytime parade.

I'll always remember our first trip to DL our family made a bee line towards fantasyland and we all looked at each other laughing running through the castle thinking how cool this all was. It felt like we were in a WDW/DL commercial. It's one of our favorite vacation moments.

The time they let you though the turnstiles differed every day last week. A couple of the days they started letting people through the turnstiles 15 to 30 minutes ahead of time (even for MM) and then dropped the rope at opening/beginning of MM. Twice they didn't even let anyone through the turnstiles until opening/beginning of MM. I guess the lesson is that there is no guarantee! You can't even be sure when they might let you through security. We arrived 40 minutes before scheduled opening/or MM each day and were always toward the fron of the lines. One morning we were there an hour early and were the first in line. The asked the family next to us (first in line at gate 7) to announce the opening. The got to sign a book and got special pins. Then just before they let people through the turnstiles they helped excitedly announce the opening.
