Rope drop timing question

im taking my kids to MK this week solo while my husband works (he will join the rest of the days) and I'm trying to figure out if I can get us there by rope drop. Realistically, what time would I need to be at TTC to get to the park in time? 8:30? My kids adore the monorail so we would probably want to go that way. It will be a Thursday. We don't have to be the first ones in line, but if I want them to experience it what time should I plan for? Also keep in mind we won't have gotten to our hotel the night before until after 9pm.

Thx!

8:10 or earlier.

They start the rope drop ceremony about 8:40AM.

And, because nobody can accurately gauge exactly how long it will take to get to TTC (traffic conditions, etc.)
or exactly WHERE you will be parked at TTC...
or how backed up the monorail or fairy boats will be...
I'd plan on arriving by 8:00AM.
That way, if you're delayed by unknowns, you won't be late.

Like everything at WDW, it's better to arrive far too early, than to arrive one minute too late.

I guess it's only appropriate that MK would have fairy boats. :-) (sorry, Robo, couldn't resist).

The most reliable way to arrive is walk over from the CR, where you control your timing. Barring that, arrive by resort bus if you can, which eliminates the uncertainties of boat and monorail. Leaving your WDW resort by 7:30 will, barring some breakdown or other issue, usually get you to the MK by 8:00. @Robo has his times down pat; that's what we experienced last Thursday morning.

How early are the first people there on a 9am opening day? No plans to be the first one there, just curious.

Just like Robo has said its best to be there much earlier than you need to be then 1 minute late.

I have rolled up on the monorail at 7:45ish (8am open) just as they are counting down & shoot off the fireworks. I yelled for everybody in the car "LOOK TO THE RIGHT". The mom of a group of kids thanked me...they had never been before & thought it was so cool to see. We were late cause of a jam up at the TTC (it happens), but at least we got to see a neat moment.

I would plan to be at the TTC no later than 8am. Arriving any later than 8:20 at MK puts you towards the back of the RD pack and maybe not even through bag check. It also probably depends on how busy it is while you are there, but this has been my experience.
