Rope drop at the Studios

Supposedly, the third track is supposed to be activated soon. I'm thinking that times should drop a little after that. Trying to get TSM FP+s at 30 days out was a futile effort for me. Our only hope is rope drop.

They walked everyone up Main Street at MK as well.
First on Space Mountain that day. Its doable . We do it everytime. Get there early, walk close behind the CM's. I find it all very calm now.
I was first on soarin and space in october, first on toy story and space last week.

I witnessed none of that last week. We were at the park at 8:20.Turnstiles opened at 840. They stopped us at the crossroads of Hollywood blvd. 15 cast members WALKED everyone to the arch, stopped, and then took the left to TSM. everyone walked. We were first ones on.
This was our experience on May 7 (except for being the first ones on; not quite!).

But isn't TSMM supposed to be opening up a third track soon? That will help significantly. BTW, I chuckled at the OP's Run -- five hour wait, etc!! thanks for the morning chuckle.

What is it like heading over to RnR or ToT at rope drop. We decided to fastpass Toy Story for later in the morning and head to those other rides at rope drop. Is it as crazy heading that way at rope drop?

I think nothing beats rope drop at Tokyo Disney, this is one of my favorite videos...hoping the situation with TSMM gets better once the third track opens up in a couple of weeks

That is insanity!! I can't stop laughing. It looks like they're running from the apocalypse!!

I'm curious what the early EMH rope drop looks like at HS? Going in September and have contemplating going there with the early EMH even though I typically go to other parks on those days.

Yep, we were at HS in November for a crowd level 2 day, when they were closing at 4:30 pm due to a private party, with an 8 am opening. It was still madness due to the terrible rope drop process.

We arrived at 7:30 am and were second at the tapstiles. They started letting people in at 7:40, but then everyone started crowding up to one of the internal rope drops. It got more and more packed, and they didn't actually drop the rope until 8:02 am on my phone. With two kids and a stroller, and getting stuck behind other strollers, and craziness all around us, it was an ugly time. We left the ride at 8:35 am. That's an unpleasant, 65-minute process for one ride!

I mean, it's a very fun, unique ride -- it's probably the most fun ride for families with young kids in all of WDW -- but it's still just not worth it.

I checked my phone as we got off the ride, and RNRC was at 10 min, ToT at 5, Star Tours at 5, GMR at 5. We did RNRC and it was actually a walk-on, but it was posted at 20 minutes with a line growing outside by the time we got off. So if we had skipped TSMM, we could have let the kids walk around from 7:45-8 am (instead of being jammed at the front of the TSMM rope drop crowd), then had 3 rides on RNRC and one on ToT, and on our way to GMR or Star Tours in the same time. As it was, we got one ride on TSMM and one on RNRC.

Next time, one ride on TSMM with FP will be good!

If TSM is really on your wish list, take a trip to California. The lines are barely there at times (since it cannot be fastpassed) and is pretty easy to get on.

In the dozens of times I have been to California Adventure TSM lines were almost always close to 45 minutes all day every day no matter the park crowd size.

TSM is a fun ride but not the oh WOW ride to me. Last time I was on it was incredibly bumpy on a ride that should be smooth.

It's not as bad because the group's not as large, but still hectic because you have a group being held and then released.

I agree with the PP about it used to be more civilized and enjoyable when they just let everyone through the tapstiles at a controlled pace. I don't know why they changed it back to something that makes everyone miserable. What an awful way to start the day.

It won't change until someone gets hurt (and a lawyer finds threads like these that make deniability impossible). People complain all the time about the running of the bulls.

We were there last week and were walked to RnR w/ CM's leading the way. It was pretty non-eventful and orderly except for one family that tried to sneak around the CM's and rush ahead of the pack. They were quickly stopped and made to wait.

Most folks are headed for TSM so folks headed to TOT or RNR are in the minority. I saw maybe 5 people out of a hundred headed that direction.

At the Studios Rope drop I am talking about, the CM's just got out of the way as soon as they opened up.

Then stood by and waved as the crowd surged on by---

My pleasure!

It can seem like 5 hours, especially now with a seemingly endless parade of fast-passers getting on constantly..boarding in the regular line is now slower than ever.

I had a co-worker recently telling me about her trip to Disney World. They seemed to be pretty good planners and tried to maximize their time the best they could.

She was very excited to tell me about her experience riding Midway Mania without a Fast Pass. The got up really early, got to the gates about 45 minutes before they opened and waited in a pretty large crowd. Then they hurried as fast as they could to the ride and the wait was *only* 15 minutes. By the time they got off the line was almost an hour long. There were people all over the place.

I rode the same ride 4 times in about an hour late at night and didn't have to deal with the crowds.

ive been in a run, a walk, a controlled walk at rope drop, and i miss the just let people go scenario they had going for a while. It seemed to be pretty controlled by the natural progression of people through the turnstiles, I dont know whay they went back to stopping everyone mid street.
Either way ive been first or second every time, so not that worried about it

Should add that "Rope drop" at Epcot was almost as bad--with Soarin shut down, everybody and their brother were frantic to run over to Test Track--another wild scramble!!

On our most recent visit last summer, we found a 10 minute wait on Test Track at about 8 pm. The posted wait was 40.

If you want short lines, you need to be there when the lines are the shortest. And that's later in the evening. Rope Drop is way to crowded for us.
