In an effort to do TSM w/o a 5 hour wait we decided to go to the Studios at rope drop and walk on over first thing. Well--when the rope "dropped" there was a roar from the crowd and dozens of folks started RUNNING for that attraction--2 of whom fell in the process and barely avoided being trampled by the crowd.

We of course walked and when we got there it was already a 35 minute wait.

When we got off the ride it was a 55 minute wait.

We had that same experience at last visit in December 2014, so we now avoid RD and just book 3 FP+ (including TSM) for mid-morning - and easier to do now given closures in DHS.

We just got back last week and if you go at the end of the day the wait is not very long.
In fact it was basically a walk on at 45 minutes before park closing at 8:30. I say wait and go late afternoon....everything is easy to get on and
the temperatures are cooler.

We got back last week also and went to TSM about 8:15 PM and it said it was a 30 minute wait and we decided to get in line and wait the 30 minutes. It actually only took 10 minutes. Yay!

TRouble for me is that at 8:15 we are LONG out of the parks and just finishing dinner at a Signature restaurant.!! While I like TSM, I am not willing to alter a day long schedule just for a few minutes long ride.

Should add that "Rope drop" at Epcot was almost as bad--with Soarin shut down, everybody and their brother were frantic to run over to Test Track--another wild scramble!!

If TSM is really on your wish list, take a trip to California. The lines are barely there at times (since it cannot be fastpassed) and is pretty easy to get on. Same with the waits for Soarin (although that can have a fastpass). The waits are smaller if you figure out the system there.

I think nothing beats rope drop at Tokyo Disney, this is one of my favorite videos...hoping the situation with TSMM gets better once the third track opens up in a couple of weeks

I've seen Toyko's video before, shocks me that they allow that but I guess it's just differences in culture?

the thing is.... running is contagious. YOu might have intentions on walking (very fast) but walking non the less and when you start getting passed by those running.. there is a impulse to start running. Fortunately, I resist the urge.. but do start walking faster.. needless to say. My family is typically waiting for me at the entrance to TSM.. :( not happy about it either.. >:(

Gosh it's really bad that I am wishing my kids moved that fast. I am militant about them picking up the pace at RD with the very fast walk. I miss the days when I was the FP runner and could execute that not quite run in timed precision.

I witnessed none of that last week. We were at the park at 8:20.Turnstiles opened at 840. They stopped us at the crossroads of Hollywood blvd. 15 cast members WALKED everyone to the arch, stopped, and then took the left to TSM. everyone walked. We were first ones on.

During my recent 10 day trip, I didn't witness any running at RD at any of the parks. The fastest I saw anybody do was a fast-paced walk.
