Rope drop at magic kingdom?

Yes, it's done every day. If you want to see the opening ceremony, I would suggest being at the gates at least 30 minutes before the official park opening time.

On non-EMH days the show starts at 8.48 for a 9 am park opening.

On EMH it is at 7.48 for an 8am EMH and not performed again before regular park opening.

You want to be at MK at least 30 mins before to have time to get through bag check and the turnstiles.

Head to the centre for the best view :goodvibes

I can honestly say that there is no better way to start a day then with rope drop at MK...pure Disney. Love it.pixiedust:

Agree I love the opening ceremony.

Good morning good morning to you.

Thanks all! Last time I mentioned it to a few CM's and they didn't have a clue what I was on about kept asking what time I should be there at and never got an answer just a confused look! Oh well at least this time I have something else to look forward to that I have not seen yet :-D excited

One tip I'd give you - don't stand right up against the railing for the opening ceremony.
The angle looking up to the train station is too steep if you're at the front.
Hang back as people push in front for a better view.

We waited till every one had rushed through as well and had a long wave with Mickey and Pluto not much to some but DD was so excited to see them. We then went to meet Pluto and he was so good with DD. special disney memories to us.

The rope drop is always something I have wondered about! Does it take place before or after the ferry/monorail? Also, I am staying on International Drive and relying on hotel transport to TTC centre, what time should I aim to leave hotel, so I am there 30 minutes before opening? Been to Florida 8 times before but always had a car, so this is my first trip relying on public transport.

Thanks!

After the ferry or the monorail from the Ticket and Transportation Centre. It takes place at the front of the park each morning ( they have different ones at each park) . Please remember that small children have problems seeing all the action going on both at rope drop and inside the parks and keep them with you it's no fun losing them in a big crowd.

It's sad, but I think that MK is the only one to do any sort of opening show anymore. :sad1:

The opening show at MK and previous ones at other parks is not quite the same thing as a rope drop.

Rope drop happens when you have entered the park but cast members physically hold you behind a rope until they drop it and let you run loose! In some parks they will walk the crowd behind the rope to a certain point in the park. At AK they used to take you up close to Everest, in DHS it was to just before the hat and in MK to the area in front of Space Mountain/Buzz Lightyear. I saw fewer actual rope drops last summer so not sure if they are a thing of the past but they are not the same thing as opening shows.

We went to watch show on our last day in August last year and it wasn't on :confused3 Don't know if it was just a problem that day.

The opening ceremony is lovely. As a previous poster said, hang back a little for a better view. You will first take either the ferry or monorail from the parking lot, when you arrive at MK you will go through security and the turnstiles with your ticket before you are in front of the railroad station, this is where the action happens. Enjoy x

Do the buses not run that early then? Chances of us taking the monorail or boat are slim!

Yes the buses start around about an hour before the park opens :)
