We are taking my father in law who just had heart surgery. What time does the first train leave from Main Street at rope drop? We are going to Splash and Big Thunder Mountain first so I thought it would be easier to just take the train ?

The first train will leave not too much longer after rope drop. However they'll wait until there's enough people on board. Walking is quicker, but I understand your reason for taking the train.

With his current condition, Have you thought about renting an ECV for the trip through an off site provider? It's cheaper for him or you to rent through an off site provider. It will give him a greater amount of Freedom than having to walk around the parks. If my Mom had just gone through Heart surgery, I would be thinking about an ECV as well.

For sure.
There will be much, much more difficult treks through the park(s) than just at park opening, and very few ridable alternate routes.

Just point.
If his surgery makes his condition less-than-hearty, I'm wondering if he will be RIDING Splash and BTM with you. (The rides have health warnings.)

If he is NOT going to be riding, he (and maybe a companion) could wait for and take the train while the rest of the party walks over and begins riding.
