Rooting Holly.....

I have several Holly bushes. They are in need of trimming and I have heard that you can root Holly directly in soil, using a rooting food/hormone mixture (?).

Is this true? Can you suggest a good rooting mix?

Will I have to keep them inside until spring?

Can it be done at this time of year?
