I went to the dentist yesterday for root treatment. The dentist removed the nerve and said that should stop the pain. I have to go back in two weeks for a root filling.
The tooth that had been giving me problems is fine now but today the surrounding teeth have been sore. Is this normal? I am guessing that it is a knock on effect from the injections and drilling etc... Anyone else had problems like this?

Yes! I had a sore mouth after treatment, particularly the injection site! I also had some complications with a root filling ( the only one I've had) and needed antibiotics - sometimes they issue these anyway as a precautionary measure - but you are saying it isn't the actual tooth?

If it doesn't settle down or it gets worse, call the dentist, they will usually fit you in just to check that nothing untoward is going on.

i had to have root canal treatment 3 years ago

i had major problems afterwards due to infection then an absys (not spelled correctly  )

in the end i went to another dentist because i was in severe pain after the inital surgery and the original dentist kept saying it was normal and if i wanted he could remove the tooth to stop the pain !!

2 days after that my face swelled up and i saw another dentist at another firm who said i had an absys

he said the main problems with root canal surgery in the UK was the time between the removal of the nerve and when you go back to have the final hard filling is too quick

he was from austrailia and he said over there they actually have 3 weekly appointments to clean out the tooth before they hard fill it

in this country that doesn't happen because the dental practice then has to wait 4 weeks til the treatment is complete before you pay

after any dental treatment your surrounding teeth maybe sore though - think that's normal

hope you feel better soon

neil

:D

I don't envy you........... :( :( I hate dentist almost as much as I hate flying,
anyway I've had a root filing done about 1 year ago, and I think like any treatment you have at the dentist, even if its just a clean & polish they seem to put all your teeth on edge.

It should settle down though within 48 hours, if however it is really uncomfortable I found that rubbing a bit of calgel (babies teething gel) really numbs the area, I tend to put it on automatically now after I've been to the dentist just in case:p

Good Luck anyway and I hope it doesn't hurt for too long.

ttfn:crazy:

Tartan Tigger,

I hope yur gubs in better fettle the day big yin;) ;)

If not follow the 3 step rule :p

Step 1......... Lie back on soft support, (chair/settee etc), with head tilted back.

Step 2..........Begin pouring, (direct from bottle), copious amounts of Drambuie. Ice is optional - but may not be comfortable due to position of neck :p

Step 3.............Continue with step 2 until pain has receeded..............or bottle is empty - whichever is appropriate per patient

If pain persists.......................persist !!...........never let a good bottle of Drambuie lie idle:jester:

Let me know how you get on ........ in 2 weeks time.
I'm off to the Sunshine State on Sunday:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

I have had some extremely painful experiences with my teeth and really sympathise with you.

Personally I am wholly in support of extracting teeth at the age of 16 and replacing them with something false.

No matter how careful I am I always end up with an abscess(?) now and again. Perhaps I brush too hard and actually push something between my gum and tooth that causes an infection.

Either way, there is nothing as excrutiating as an abscess and believe me I know - I have given birth without pain relief!

I wouldn't worry too much about the pain in surrounding teeth, it should settle down.

Thanks for all your advice. Like your idea Brian;)

My mouth is still sore although Nurofen is helping:D I was talking to my friend tonight and she said her mouth was the same after root treatment (pain worse than before any work was done). So with my friends story and the things you have all said I'm calming down a bit now. I had convinced myself the dentist had treated the wrong tooth.
Hopefully it will die down over the weekend.

TT,

Just staggered back in after a 'last night out' with family and friends :p

Sorry to hear you're still suffering :(

Look on the bright side.............................you're not a farmer - so you can't count sheep to get a good nights sleep...........................................however.........................................having looked at your countdown timer....................................................you could count the days 'til you get to the Caribbean Beach :jester:

That, should at least, give you the chance of a good nights sleep:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
