When we were driving back to our Universal resort last week from Disney I noticed the blue "Rooms Available" sign as we were leaving Disney.

That sign seems like a nod to times gone by. Does anyone really see that sign and think, "Hm... I guess we came to WDW and forgot to book a room and we have nowhere to stay tonight. Perhaps we should call the number on that sign"? Or "Well, we have a room at Universal, but perhaps we should just get another one here at Disney to save the drive"? :scratchin

I remember my parents booking a room in Nashville after we left Opryland one night. They told me that last minute rooms were often cheaper because hotels just wanted to fill them.

Does Disney do that? Do they offer any discounted day-of rooms? I always thought their discounts ran out some time prior to the night of stay and day-of bookings were really expensive with no discounts (except, perhaps, for passholders whose discount often are bookable right up until the night of stay).

I am sure some people book last minute, but I would assume they would do so electronically. I thought the old see-a-sign-book-a-room style went out sometime in the 1990's. :P
