Does Disney release more rooms to DVC members as dates get closer?
I see that many of the DVC resorts have availability on Disney's website but when members check there are no rooms for them.
We are going February 15-20 and I'm willing to change my room only reservation at Coronado at the last minute to change to a studio at a DVC resort. Renting points from a member. What are my chances??

DVC and CRO are two separate inventories. CRO showing availability will have nothing to do with DVC availability.

I totally understand this.
My question if Disney doesn't sell these cash rooms do they open them up to DVC members?

My understanding is once they are moved over to CRO they do not get moved back even at last minute.

You have little to slim to no chance at all to rent a reservation this late from a member for those dates.

Releasing rooms to DVC members doesn't happen. In fact, DVC turns over all reservations not made to CRO 60 days out so that they can be sold to non-members.

The rooms available on the Disney website have already been used by a member to book outside of DVC resorts. These have been turned over to CRO to recoup the cost of the non-DVC stay.

The only way a room will come available is for a member to cancel. And there probably is already a waitlist for those dates. From 30 days out to the start of the vacation a member will lose the full use of the points if they cancel, so you are just outside that window.

No stink there. You just need a better understanding of how DVC works. Members make their reservations at their home resorts 11 month ahead of time. At their non-home resort 7 months ahead of time. You can't wait until the last minute, especially for a holiday week, to get a DVC reservation.

I'm not doubting your statement, but if that were true, how can I constently get a room on less than 3 days notice? One time I even made the reservation the same day as check in. We live 2 hours away and always go at the last minute. We rarely have a problem getting a room at the last minute.

If you are looking at dates in February and there is no availabilty right, best advice is to waitlist.

If a DVC reservation is still available, they have brought them back from CRO. If you are staying weekends, that's probably when most of the vacancies were available. I know we did get a room for three days on the day we needed it, but I just thought it might be due to last minute cancellation.

You actually may have a shot at that February reservation once you get right up to the 30-day window. At that point some members will cancel reservations that were tentative, because if they get inside the 30-day window and have to cancel the points go into holding.

We have more than once been able to grab a last minute points reservation in this way.

But you do have to get your name on the wait list.

Which is highly unlikely for a member to be willing to do for a renter.

Points turned over at 60 days (not used for trades) can sometimes be reclaimed from CRO - but reclaiming several days at this late date is unlikely. Its unlikely that the rooms you are seeing on the web are reclaimable - the vast majority of rooms through CRO are from trades - those are not reclaimable.

I agree, the rooms you are seeing have to be from Trades, not rooms turned over to CRO. Another reason you can't get a DVC room on those dates is because of President's day weekend.

Just wanted to expand on crisi's answer -

It's unlikely that a member would want to waitlist at this late date for a rental unless you would be willing to pay up front in full (with a promise of a refund if the waitlist didn't work). There are just too many ways for a late rental to go wrong for the owner (and the renter, too for that matter).

Once you are at the 31 day mark, check the Rent/Trade Forum to see if anyone has a confirmed reservation for your dates. You might get lucky.
