We are thinking of getting a 1 bedroom at OKW next September for 2 weeks. Our plan is to invite a friend to join us for a few days, so we will need a 2 bed while she is there.

So if we start in a 2 bed then change to a one bed after she leaves will we get to stay in the same unit and have the connecting door locked? If this is what we want to do is it better to start with a 1 bed and go up to a 2 bed for the last few nights or have her come at the start of the trip then go down to the 1 bed. Hope that makes sense!!

BTW I am in England and wondered if any of you could tell me the approx flying time from Toronto or Buffalo (NY state) to Orlando. Is it a very expensive route? Our friend is Canadian and a widowed senior so I dont want to invite her if the flight would be very costly or long.

Thanks, Mandy

I can answer your second question......from Buffalo to Orlando if you get a direct flight (which are rare) is 2 1/2 hrs.........Southwest is really the only airline out of Buffalo which flys direct and they have 1 direct flight a day......it departs at 7:30 a.m. and arrives Orlando at 10:00 am.........the flight back to Buffalo departs around 10:30 am and arrives in Buffalo around 1 pm......Airtran, JetBlue also offer decent fares from Buffalo to Orlando but there will always be a layover (New York or Atlanta usually)..........Approximate cost for round trip is anywhere from about $190 to $280 depending on booking/availability.......

I took a look also. There are quite a few direct flights out of Toronto that take about 2 hours 45 minutes. Price is currently running around $400. Of course, airline prices tend to change all the time and you may be able to find a better fare. I found the same info about Buffalo. Mostly connecting flights with total travel time each way running about 4 hours. Prices are currently cheaper out of Buffalo running around $190.

Being able to use the same unit for a one-bedroom or two-bedroom is a request DVC will try to honor. However, it can't be guaranteed. To have even a chance, you must be sure to book a lock-off two-bedroom. This is determined at the time you make the reservation. I don't think it will make a lot of difference whether you go from 2-bed to 1-bed or vice versa. However, it might be best to start with the 2-bed to increase your chances.

Make sure you tell MS to "LINK" the reservations. That way they know it is for the same person. MS will try to keep you in the same room, just opening the doors to the studio when you need the 2nd bedroom. This also saves DVC cleaning cost, so it is in their best intrest to keep you in the same 1 BR unit. I have done this several time, and never had to move. MS does try very hard to meet everyone requests.

When you check in make sure to point out the room changes you have so they can "Work Their Magic".

Have a great trip.

We did what you are proposing last year. We booked a 2 bedroom lock off for the first half of the trip and a 1 bedroom for the second half. We had the ressies linked and asked to be in the same unit. There was no problem.

That is a long trip for just a few days at WDW. I don't know if the costs posted include the exchange rate or not. You should have no problem getting a two bed lock-off in September that you can turn into a one bedroom.
