Rooms assigned based on date of reservation?

I'm renting points for a stay at BWV. I paid for a preferred view as I'm hoping to get to overlook the BW. Is it true that room assignments are done based upon when the reservation was made? This would be helpful to know as I'd try to register early to get my requests if I have to. If it's based on when the reservation was made, I guess it wouldn't matter when I show up to register. Anyone know for sure? I'm pretty sure my reservation was made at the 11 month mark, which would put me higher on the list for getting my preferences.

We're BWV owners. To the best of my knowledge, rooms are preassigned and requests are honored in the order the reservation was made. For example, a ressie made at 11 months would get priority over one made at 9 months. Requests based on medical needs come first, of course. It shouldn't matter what time of the day you check in.

IMHO, the biggest factor in getting your requests granted is the number of rooms available on the day you check in. Even if you are first on the list, if all the rooms overlooking the Boardwalk are occupied (no one checking out on the day you arrive), you will not get your request.

Good luck - I'm sure you will enjoy your stay even if you don't get that coveted view of the Boardwalk. Hope you do.

Few owners get a BW view even if they make reservations at 11 months out. Assume you won't get it and be excited if you do.

We stayed 3 times and never got boardwalk view, it is very difficult to get and we made the ressies at the 11 month window.

I'll tell you what, we got preferred view of the back facing the dolphin and swan and were blown away! Any view we got from the back seemed amazing. Don't at all get bumbed out about not getting the bw view! The BWV is great! with any view. In fact, many people deliberately put in for standard view, to save points, knowing that the entire experience at the BWV is great. It is clearly one of the best resorts in the country. The ambiance, the action, the entertainment, and the proximity to Epcot and MGM makes it a great hotel. My children and I would awaken to the sound of the boats to mgm and it is absolutely breathtaking from any view!

Would you say that the chances of getting a BW view are increased if you check in on a Saturday, since many people try to avoid weekends due to the higher points required? We are renting points from a DVC member, and arriving on Saturday 2/1. We realize that our chances of BW view are slim, but have requested it anyway. Has anyone noticed a pattern of request being more likely to be met if checking in on a Saturday (or Friday for that matter)?

In 2000, I made my reservation for preferred view with a BW view request right at 11 months and arrived on a Saturday. We did not get it. We were over the quiet pool on the top floor with a view of MGM. That was in early December, which is a busy time for BWV. You may have more luck on 2/1. A friend of mine got a standard studio for that night when she called a couple of weeks ago.

My understanding (from a BWV CM and from reading this board) is that Sunday is the busiest day for check ins and Friday is the busiest day for check outs. So yes, I think you have a better chance of getting your requests met if you check in on Friday (or Saturday). Of course, as Debbie attests above, there is no guarantee! The most frequently requested view is the one overlooking the Boardwalk, so you'll likely have lots of competition for the available rooms. But someone has to get them, so.....

Good luck!

PS Some of the Boardwalk view rooms ae out of service right now due to the rehab work, so there are even less Boardwalk rooms available right now. My guess is that the rehab will not be completed by the time you have to check in.

Sorry to jump in here (I'm not a DVC owner, but my brother is, so I don't normally read this board, but I was "lurking" tonight), but thought I'd add our experience.

My brother's home resort is not BW (VWL, I think), so we always get "stuck" with preferred view whether we want it or not reserving at 7 months out. We've have gone twice now as his "guests" (last January and last week :) ).

Last year he reserved 3 studios. All were on the third floor, not far from the elevators (I never realized how far away some of the rooms are until I went looking for the rubish room last week!). Our room was about 4 or 5 down the hall in one direction, the other 2 about the same distance in the other direction. Our room overlooked the pool/Keister Coaster area and was a lockout studio. The other two rooms were dedicated studios, and one overlooked the BW (what do they call that, "the green?" outside the lobby area), the other was across the hall, and I guess overlooked the pool? Our room was rather quiet, and I liked the view. Oh, we stayed Tuesday to Tuesday.

This year we were next to each other, again on the third floor near the elevators. They were both dedicated studios. Ours was the one right next to the stairs, the other right next door. Being next to the stairs wasn't a problem. Being right above "the green" was, IMO. We stayed Monday to Monday this time, and since we're staying there right when they're taking the Christmas decorations down (again), I could hear them wheeling the trees and everything away at midnight! I could also hear all the "drunk conventioneers" heading back to their rooms when the bars let out. That may have only been the first two nights or so, but I really don't like to be awakened by a bunch of noisy adults streaming up the steps right outside my window (not the ones next to the room--never heard anybody there) and into the lobby. Sorry, just my feelings. Everytime one of the boats would "toot" my two-year-old son would go "beep beep."

Also, I should add that each time we checked in, the desk staff did their best to get us on the same floor, and near each other. This year my brother's room was ready when we got there (before 1pm?) and we decided to wait for the room right next to them to be cleaned rather than take a room that was already available. Made it nice for grandparent/uncle babysitting of our two-year-old!

Don't get me wrong, I love staying at the BWV, and I'd be just as happy looking at the parking lot. :)
