Roomba?

I just purchased one, and of course, after I bought it, I've read complaints about it scratching hardwood floors. Some people recommend taping the front wheel with electrical tape to prevent this.
I was really looking forward to this little gadget, but the price tag is pretty steep for something that could damage my floors.
Does any one else use one on hardwood?

I've never had any concern about it scratching our hardwood floors (we have Indonesian kempas). It's no rougher than a regular vacuum.

We have a Roomba but I don't let it on our hardwood floors.
I just Swiffer them...only takes 5 minutes.

We LOVE our Roomba!

We do the eletrical tape thing for my front wheel when using the hardwood and marble tile. I'm more concerned with ruining the wheel than scratching the floors. I understand they wear down very easily and are expensive/difficult to replace.

I have to remove the chewed up electrical tape and re-apply after using it on the hardwood and marble. Only takes 20 seconds or so, and we don't use it too often on the hard surfaces, so it's not that big a deal.

I Swiffer too, but we have area rugs around the house so I'd like to let Roomba loose.
Apparently the issue with the wheel is it just moves in one direction, does not turn. That means when Rooma turns, the wheel is stationary, so it winds up just dragging sideways across the floor.
Electrical tape is on it now, I'll just keep a close eye on it, I really don't want what others have called "crop circles" on their floors.

I just checked again -- I don't see any "crop circles" or any indication that our Roomba is doing anything untowards to the floors. It just sucks up the dust.
