Room with a pull out bunk

We would like to stay at POR and they have rooms with a pull out bunk, but the travel agent is telling me that she will not be able to get a guarantee at POR, but CAN at Caribbean Beach.

We need the 3rd bed because my daughter's autism involves a lot of flapping at night and she can't share a bed. The TA says families of 5 will get priority for those rooms because "they can't be accommodated" in a room without one.

Neither can we.

Do I need to find a different agent? Does it make sense that she can guarantee a 3rd bed at CB but not POR? Is there someone at Disney who could help us?

The preferred rooms at POR would guarantee the pull down. If it's the same at CBR, they may only have preferred rooms available there. Thus, the guarantee.

That's the only way to guarantee it.

Okay, she's saying ALL the rooms at CBR have the pull down.

The pirate rooms don't. I really don't know if all the others do, but that would surprise me. I would assume it'd be a portion like POR, but I don't plan on staying there so I haven't researched it.

This is all I can find about the bunks from Allears.

Maybe post on the resorts boards no ask which buildings or room type would guarantee a pull down.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort began a major refurbishment (July 2014) scheduled to be completed in spring 2015. During this time, all rooms (with the exception of King Bed rooms and Pirate Rooms) will be upgrading to queen beds. Many rooms (but not all) will then have the ability to accommodate up to five, with the addition of a bunk-size fold down bed. These rooms will be located in all of the resort's villages.

I do not believe that ALL rooms at CBR have the extra bed. As with POR, to my knowledge it's only some. I did a quick scan of the CBR thread on the Resorts Forum, and they even post pictures of rooms with and without the bunk.

OP, I think your options for guaranteed 3 beds are a family suite (AoA or ASMu) and the Cabins at FW. Some deluxe resort rooms sleep 5, but again I don't think it's guaranteed unless you have 5 people in your party (my family doesn't stay deluxe, so maybe someone else knows more). Another option that many families do when their children cannot share a bed is to bring an air mattress; I've read of this working at all level of resorts.

Enjoy your vacation!

Okay, she's saying ALL the rooms at CBR have the pull down.

I do not believe that all the rooms have the pull-down bunk. We stayed at CBR last week with extended family. Our group had three rooms total. One of the rooms did have a pull-down bunk, but the other two did not. I am not sure where the "preferred rooms" are at CBR, but our reservation was for a standard view room -- the least expensive we could book. None of us requested the pull-down bunk and we were surprised to see it.

Strangely, our party of 2 (grandma and grandpa) were the ones who ended up with the pull-down bunk, while our other two rooms had 4 each but no bunk. However, the pull-down bunk was not a twin-size bed. My 11 year old, who is quite petite, found it too small to sleep in (grandma and grandpa offered).

So because the TA gave information that conflicted with the website, I called Disney directly. By the time the nice CM was done helping get it sorted, I just booked the room through Disney directly and will be telling the TA, "thanks but no thanks." Her information was actively wrong and I'm not comfortable with that.

The pull out bunk is for a 5 year old, so fit shouldn't be a issue. We just need her not to be turning her brother black and blue with her flapping.

We've opted for a preferred room, because the price difference with the assorted rooms that were available means we're paying $200 for the better location which is way more important to us than a view. A view is the sort of thing that is charming pixie dust but not worth spending money for us, where as the shorter walk might be a big deal at some point.

Glad you got it sorted out.
But just want to clarify.
Not all rooms at CBR have pull out bed (even non pirate rooms). And yes your TA was correct they give priority to families of 5 for pull out bed. We were at CBR last week and did not receive the requested pull out bed. The CM explained that priority was given to reservations with 5 guests in room. In the end They were able accommodate us.
idk what they do regarding prioritazation and autism.

The TA was incorrect in that she claimed that if she booked me at CBR, all rooms had the pull out bunk and that while she could not guarantee a pull out at POR, she could do so at CBR. She was under the impression that she could do at CBR what she could not at POR. We'd have ended up booked into a much less attractive (to us) resort on the basis of a promise she could not actually keep.

They offer no prioritization for a disability accommodation on this front and since we're arriving late we'd have run a real risk of not having beds for everyone.

Just FYI - the extra bunk pulls down from the cabinet under the TV.mthere are actually very good pictures of all room types at WDW on the Disney website. Too bad the TA didn't check there - you can see the cabinet in the pictures, so it's really obvious that not all rooms have them. Plus, when you try to book from the website, it tells you how many it will sleep directly under a picture of the room type.

This is a picture of a room at POR from the Disney website with the bed stowed.image.jpg

This is a picture with the bed in sleeping position, just so you can see the size.
Depending on how your daughter flaps and whether she also likes noise, you may find it works better to have him sleep in the pull down bed so her flapping is not hitting the back wall and cabinet.

FWIW, we had a similar issue on our last trip and stayed at CBR in the refurbished rooms. We booked a standard room (not pirate) and then requested a room with the little fold down bed. We didn't receive our request, however, as a "disability" was involved (autism), the hotel staff kindly offered a folding rollaway bed for free. I'm not sure but I don't believe those are normally offered.

That's good to know for the future. Thank you. We've made peace with the extra money. DH thinks being closer will be worth it at night after long days in the parks.

1) Just remember, NO ROOM IS GUARANTEED.
. . . regardless of resort or room type
. . . regardless of cost of room
2) We do try to accommodate, but
. . . Frequently people are moved around.
. . . Between categories.
. . . And, even between resorts.
4) Yes, we have gotten complaints, but things do happen and guests need to be flexible.
. . . I have moved people to other resorts many times.
. . . Usually to better rooms, but not always.
. . . There are different reasons for rooms not to be available
. . . If not available, there is nothing that can be done.

1)The person I spoke with understands the medical necessity and confirmed it as an absolute
2)You may not know absolutely everything
3)Like the fact that you left out the number three

But hey, thanks for saying something lousy to try to make me stress out over my vacation. That's especially kind and helpful to someone with an anxiety disorder.
