Room Views: The Obsession

The view does not bother me that much either. The one execption is when we request a studio and get ground floor. Many times the air conditioner is right next to the balcony. The other was the last trip where we had a two bedroom with a large balcony overlooking the golf course. As a family we spent hours out there eating and talking to late in the night. That was real nice. Come to think of it, I guess the view does make a difference to us.. :rotfl2: ...smjj

Part of my relaxation and vacation is time spent on the balcony/patio of my room, especially in the morning since I am an early bird, enjoying my cup of coffee and the view in front of me while my family sleeps. I prefer to stay in resorts that have balconies or patios. A view of a roof top or dumpster definitely ruins things for me and has in the past. I pay the extra for the view when it is available and am willing to wait if I have to for the better view. I know this may seem like a waste to some people...they would rather spend it on a souvenier or meal, but to me, I enjoy the view. Some are more spectacular than others.

Here's hoping that we all get what we wish for to make each trip better than the last. :wizard:

I think many first timers or renters tend to obsess on getting particular rooms and views. For them it is like a one time opportunity and it has to be perfect. I think for those having many visits under their belt realize that there is a bigger longer term picture to see. Of course we try to get a good view when checking in, but beyond that we know that some times the view is great and sometimes it is just ok. We just came back from VB and ended up with a 2nd floor vacation home facing the mini-golf. Not what would have chosen if we had the choice, but it is just a small part of the whole picture and we had a wonderful vacation and are looking forward to the next. :thumbsup2

Only one time have I had reason, at least reason to me, for complaint about a particular DVC view. I had booked a one bedroom preferred view at BWV. We were sent waaaaay down the hall to a villa that overlooked the area where the sales office used to be....they were starting the croquet area shortly after our stay. When we looked out the window in the living room, there was a huge tree that we were at the top of...we were on the top floor. The balcony was one of those that are very small with the columns on each side. Then, when I went into the master suite, I realized that we not only had no balcony off the master but that we wouldn't have been able to open the drapes since there was a balcony sitting right there from another villa. We were the first villa on one side, and we faced the balcony of the room that was first on their arm...the area was shaped like a U, with us at the bottom left hand corner of the U.....no privacy at all. We went downstairs to see if there were any other units available....it was Thanksgiving Day no less. My dh told them at the front desk that if they were willing to change the view to a standard view, we would be happy to stay in it, with points returned. No, they weren't doing that. But, they did find another villa for us. Other than that, I have yet to have any reason to complain....all my views have been pretty decent. I figure that heck, I'm in WDW...how bad can it get? I just want to be able to keep my curtains open, without some man having his morning coffee, peering in my bedroom window

All of a sudden, people who would probably never pay for a resort's best view (plus the people who would) find themselves with an opportunity to get what they consider to be the "best" view in a resort.

That is an interesting point. I never paid extra for room views (before DVC) but now that the good views are "free" I want one. I can't figure out why because I don't spend much time staring out the window at Disney :confused3

Now, would that be considered a preferred view???

I know in my case it would be the equivalent of the poor guy having the DDV! :rotfl2:

Oh my-that's spooky just thinking about it!
I look at the view when I first arrive, a few times during the vacation, and if it is a good one, just before I leave the room to depart for home. I don't tend to obsess over views and I usually don't even make a request on my reservations other than nonsmoking. I do appreciate a good view if the :wizard: happens to send one my way, but I don't have a temper tantrum if I get a standard one. After all, it's Disney and I don't spend a lot of time in my room.

We've never requested any specific room or view in all the times we've been going since 1992. Only thing we ever specify is a room AWAY from any pools.

Nope, me either!!! It's usually not an issue for me. I could have lived with no balcony off the master, and I could have lived with the really tight balcony off the living room. But there was no way I was using points for a preferred view and then not be able to keep my master curtains open.
But, as mom2alix said....I don't think the man next door would have thought he had a preferred either.... :scared1:

Honestly, room view doesn't matter much to us and it would never be a reason for us to request a room change.

I booked a room at BWV's with the BW view for our trip in March. I thought it would be our first time visit since becoming DVC members so the BW view was important to me... That, and my grandson and two grown kids are going to so I wanted everyone to have the view!!!
Then I got a great airfare deal ($59 each way!!) so my DH and I are going on the 22nd of this month. When I called to book, we got the garden view because the CM said there were no standards available... That's okay with me... Garden view, Standard view,it's all ok with me... As long as I get there and have a nice, clean room to sleep in. Now, if my room wasn't clean or something huge was wrong in the room, I'd certainly be raising the roof for a room change if the situation couldn't be changed...
