Room Views - does it really matter??

I know the AK savannah is an enviable view to have but what about the other resorts?? Why do you choose to shell out your hard-earned money for the view out of your hotel room window?? Secondly, does it affect your vacation experience?

Would love to hear all sides.

Well, you hit on the #1 distinguished view: The Savannah view rooms are worth every extra penny plus some. It's a completely different experience. The most common rebuttal to that is that some folks spend so little time in their rooms -- so my reply to that is that if you can afford and get a Savannah view room, then change your park-going habits so you can fully enjoy this wonderful, unique experience.

Do other distinctive views make a difference? I don't know. Maybe. I know a lot of it has to do with the fact that we've been to WDW at least 20 times already, so the parks are just a part of the experience for us. We sometimes deliberately spend a day not visiting the parks, so the amenities of the resort hotel, and our room view, both have a major positive impact on our overall vacation experience. I'm sure that that is a lot different from the first couple of visits we made to WDW.

I agree here. There is no way I am staying at AKL without the view. I pay for it and would never hope for an upgrade. I just love sitting there looking at the animals. The first time I stayed there my Mom and I were there for a WEEK and never even turned on the TV. We hit the door and raced to the balcony... woke up and raced to the balcony.....

As for other hotels. The view does not really bother me either way. I did say at POR recently and found the standard view there just horrid. However, my favorite mod is CBR and the view there from the standard is fine.

It matters to me. We've been to WDW numerous times, so now we spend equal amount of time in the park as well as at our resort. I do spend my time at the balcony or looking out the window.

If I'm at WL, it's important for me to have the courtyard view. I want to enjoy the beauty of nature. I also enjoy folks enjoying themselves. I enjoy watching the EPW pass by.

At Poly, I don't mind the garden view. I don't have to have a lagoon view even if I can afford it. The garden view is well... filled with exotic plants. And depending on what bldg you get, you might have a view of the monorail or marina or the volcano pool, but wherever you look, there's always have lush of exotic plants and flowers.

POR/POFQ, I wouldn't pay extra to see the waterview. It's just a river.

At AKL, I think I would opt for a Savannah view. That's the whole point of staying there. To see the animals and enjoy them from your balcony.

I definitely think it depends on what you plan to do on your vacation-- the first time I went to Disney (well, in a long time), we spent *no* time whatsoever in the room-- so both the view and the hotel didn't matter at all (stayed in the All-Stars, but I just as well could have stayed at the Motel 8 for the amount of time we were actually there).

Now, though, I spend probably more time in the hotel then at the parks, so the hotel is more important-- I usually don't care whether it is Garden View or Lagoon/Water view, but I wouldn't enjoy any of the "parking lot" views :-)

The only view that is actually worth MY money is Magic Kingdom view at the Contemporary. There is no other view like it in the world.

Now, there are some great views, I had an awesome 12th floor view at the Dolphin, but none that I would book specifically, just those that I would enjoy if I got put in that room.

Since the very idea of being IN AKL makes me sneeze, I would be the person who wouldn't pay to stay there, never mind the view.

Rooms views for us are significant only for the monorail resorts. We spend a lot of time at the resorts and MK fireworks is a big feature when we stay in that area. So any room with an MK viewe, preferably higher up with a good balcony is great. Just make sure you go when they actually have fireworks! It's pretty sparse during off season unless they've started them again.

To me if I were just looking out the window (values and moderates) I would go for the least expensive view. When we have a balcony the view does make a difference. After 30 plus on site stays, we enjoy more time at the resorts than many others and balcony time is an important part of our trips.

At the moderates I can't see paying extra for the view. You really can't see it once you are in your room. If you are at a deluxe then I could see paying for a view.

I usually stick with the standard views. I just don't spend enough time in the room to justify spending the other money. I've found that most standard/garden views I've had have been quite nice at the Deluxe resorts I've stayed in. I've enjoyed spending time on my balcony at the Beach Club and Boardwalk, and our patio at the Poly.

It only matters to the person paying for it. It's a give and take. I'm thankful that I have a choice! :flower:

That's the view from cont 14th floor. I think it speaks for itself :goodvibes

Also, garden view at the boardwalk is great :teeth:

Not at all. I am not in the room enough to think anything about the view. I've had all sorts of views, though (never the castle).

I'm with TDC Nala, we never looked out the window when we were there. We dropped off our luggage, hit the parks, came home after dark, fell in the bed, woke up, took off for the bus to the parks ...wash, rinse, repeat. LOL
Anyway, at POR where we stayed the "water view" which is a preferred view keeps you out of the bldgs closest to the main bldg/food court. From what I understand "water view" also includes a view of one of the 5 quiet pools. The whole resort is lushly landscaped and beautiful so I would definitely not pay extra for a water view at POR.

I don't pay for a view. I just don't spend enough time in my room or sitting on my balcony to justify it. I can see spending the money at AKL, but that's about it. Though when I stayed at AKL, we stayed in a standard view room and looked at the animals at the public viewing area. I really don't get the people who pay for a waterview at a moderate. There's no balcony, so I really don't see the point of paying to have your window face the water.

I wouldn't pay extra at the values or moderates. Deluxe, it depends. I loved our boardwalk view at BWV last year, it spoiled me so I can't go back to standard!

We've been debating this same question for our upcoming trip to WL in a few weeks. We have standard booked, but are thinking that we will upgrade to the next class up (I think that's woods view). I don't like the thought of staying at such a beautiful hotel and getting stuck with a balcony overlooking nothing but roof. Also, we spend most early afternoons in the hotel - combination of the room and the pool, and really want to enjoy it. We've so far gotten advice to upgrade -that it really is worth it.

We need to decide soon, I guess! Our time to go is coming quickly! :cool1:

I think the view certainly adds to the experience...we loved the MK view at the CR, just felt more magical. Last summer we stayed GVC at the Poly and WOW! It was amazing...sitting on the balcony, watching the MK...sigh, what a beautiful site...

I certainly wouldn't break the bank for a view, but it can certainly add to an experience.

I second that!! I get up before its light out, and return to the room after the sun has set, so I could give a crap about the view! Although our last stay at CBR, we were upgraded to a Water View, which was nice, but sure not worth an extra $15 a night.

We had lovely views at the Dolphin each time we were there (twice) last year, but I would not pay extra for a view unless I was planning to spend a lot of time in my room. DH and I spend practically NO time in our room when we are at WDW. Now for a beach vacation, I will pay extra for the view, because we spend a fair amount of time in our room/condo and it's nice to have a beachfront balcony!
