Room Upgrades

I am wondering if anyone was ever offered a room upgrade at check-in for an extra $X.XX per night? Or is this something I need to ask for? If so, can I get a better deal if I do it at check-in or call ahead? Or maybe there are no "deals" for suites?

We are going to be at the CSR in October for my hubby's b-day and I thought it might be a nice surprise if we had a suite. We got a really great rate. We're doing the FTP for 7 nights/8 days for around $1700 which includes room, park passes, and airfare.

Thanks so much.

I've been reading various Disney boards for 4 years and can't remember reading any posts about this. A number of people have been offered an upgrade to WL Concierge (for a fee) when they checked in there, and others have written that they inquired about this themselves at WL and some felt the price they were offered was worth it.

Depending on the resort, suites are not commonly available with discounts.

discounts aren't offered on suites, and disney does not give complimentry upgrades. Now saying that upgrading does happen but in most cases it is because they over sell on a certain cat. room so they must upgrade.

To reiterate Chris's post, suites are never really at a discount- if you want them, barring a resort being completely booked and there is no where else to put you, you need to pay for it. Usually you will pay the difference between the "rack rate" (full price) and your rate, which is A LOT!!

It is not customary to give upgrades for free unless the resort is packed or something odd has happened (like a sprinkler burst shutting down rooms), but it can happen...never hurts to ask. If you are heading down right now or early October I would ask if you can get upgraded (they may just go ahead a do it) but expect to be asked to pay- there is no "business" reason to do complimentary upgrades when a resort is not full, so I wouldn't expect it as much. And if they can do it for free, all the more pixie dust for you! :D

I usually ask what upgrades would be available at check in. For instance...we asked for an upgrade last time at WL...we had a standard view and got a wood view for a fraction of what we would have paid if we had reserved it at check in... Something like $10 per nite. I have sometimes found it is less expense..sometimes not. I usually book what I am satisified with and then if the price is right I upgrade at check in. We spend so little time in the room that the only place I usually reserve a room w/ a view in advance is AKL.
