Room Upgrades

People here mention room upgrades quite a lot. What I would like to know is how does this work ? Is it a case of being cheeky and just asking. Or do you ask and offer to pay for the upgrade ?

I have never been upgraded in any hotel so I'd like to see how to try and do it.

When we visit in September it's out 10th wedding anniversary, is that worth mentioning ? Will that work ?

Thanks

Kev.

Explain it's your wedding anniversary, ask politely and you may have some luck if it's in the quiet season. You certainly won't offend anybody by asking. Perhaps you could start by asking are there any rooms available with a nice view or perhaps a little bit larger as you want to treat your wife. You might be lucky and get a complimentary upgrade from a car park view, to a gardens view or something along those lines. I doubt whether you would get a complimentary upgrade to a concierge grade room without paying for it.

When we stayed in Dixie Landings we booked the cheapest room (car park view) but ended up overlooking the small river that runs through the resort. I didn't ask for this at check-in, it just happened. I suppose we were lucky!

Have a great trip.

Rob

Hi Kev.

Sorry I did not get back to you on the other thread - I was
re-formating my computer (nightmare!)

With regards to upgrading your room it is just a case of asking
upon check in for the best room available. We have had success a few times this way. On our first trip in 1994 we managed to get a suite at the Best Western Movieland (Las Palmas then.)

We asked for the best room available when we checked in at The
Rosen and were given one of the small rooms with a great view over towards Sea World. We were happy with this room but soon realised that an electrician was in the middle of some work in the bathroom. Called housekeeping who sent someone up. I asked her if there were any better rooms with the same view. To which she replied "sure". Our replacement room had a sitting area and two windows overlooking the pool.

It really is this simple sometimes and asking is for free! We have always found the Americans to be very accommodating towards families. At The Rosen there will be lots of business types on freebies so I am sure you will have success playing the family card!

Regards Barry.

Jeez! - almost forgot......

With you all the way against the dark forces.
My mate Rob who I go to all the shows with has the same problem as you on the Monday - he works on the gate at Forest and is a big fan.

We are staying at the Rosen Centre in June which co-incides with our Wedding Anniversary, and I emailed the hotel on the quiet (from my Wife) to ask if they could make our stay that little extra special.

I got a reply a few days later offering us a King Size Bedroom with a nightly turndown service, and a surprise for us both upon arrival.

Cracking customer service!!!

We can't wait to go now, although obviously my Wife is unaware of this little extra I have arranged.

Julian.

:D

Julian,

Now that sounds like a plan !!!

Did you book the Rosen yourself or as part of a package ? ie:- through Virgin.

The reason I ask is Virgin told me that the hotel doesn't have your details untill about a fortnight till arrival. All the Hotel knows is that they need to save x amount of rooms for certain dates.

If I emailed them this week they wouldn't know who the hell I am.

Have I made sense ? It sounded starightfoward to me !!!

Kev.

Kevin,

I actually booked through Virgin so perhaps the hotel has made a note of our names in order to tie up the reservation when it is sent to them.

It was a personal reply from the Rosen Centre and the lady said if we had any problems with anything during our stay to contact her directly. I would guess you wouldn't promise something and then put your name to it would you ?

In fact I have asked a number of questions through emailing the hotel and they have been first class with their customer service.

I must admit to mentioning that we were frequent Virgins when contacting the Rosen, so whether this has had any bearing on their response I do not know.

If the hotel is as good as their customer service I think we are in for a treat. Bring it on!!!

Regards

Julian

I wasn't doubting you Julian, it sounds excellent and I hope you will have a great time.

It's our 10th wedding anniversary and my daughter's 2nd birthday, while we're over there and our reason for visiting, so this will get mentioned in dispatches me thinks.

Kev.

Also, if you are renting a car, mention it is a special occasion and you will often get free or very cheap upgrade. We have had 4wd or choice of convertibles on our wedding and anniversary trips.

I ALWAYS ask for a room upgrade...it never hurts and is generally very successful. I have never had a car park view yet!

Good luck.
Allie.

hmmmmm think i'll email our hotel later :D

anyone know what 'frequent Virgins' get at the hotel different to normal guests? as we noticed in the brouchure for 03/04 our hotel is now a frequent Virgin flying club hotel. (quality inn plaza)

BiGGy,
We stayed at the Sheraton Anaheim in LA last year which is a Virgin Flagship hotel, and once we showed our frequent membership cards they bent over backwards for us the whole holiday.

They let us off the charge for parking ($6 a night) and the safety deposit box in the room ($3 a night).

They also gave us the nicest room possible which overlooked gardens and courtyards.

I wouldn't hesitite to go back there, and I also wouldn't hesitate flashing the frequent card as soon as you check in at your hotel.

It seems to work wonders.

Have fun!!!

Julian
