Room upgrades

So far we were upgraded to a garden view at POR when my TA applied the room discount. I was pleasantly surprised. Never know what can happen when get there, though!

We were upgraded last year at Pop. I booked a standard pool view and during online check in requested 2nd floor and 50's building. We arrived quite late, sometime after midnight and were given a second floor room at the end of the first section in the Tramp building, corner right near the stairs. I could sort of see the pool to our left...and I figured well, that's what left at this time of night. Near the stairs was cool.....so I didn't complain about it. Turns out we were put in the preferred section. The last room....but preferred no the less. Didn't even realize it until after the trip.

We were also years ago upgraded at AKL from a standard room to a CL Jr. Suite. I had added a night to our trip (at ASSp) and wanted to splurge on a deluxe, so booked the last night at AKL. It was a great room, that we never really got to enjoy. But it was a nice surprise.

My experience with room upgrades is when a specific type of room, generally a lower cost one, is at capacity. When they feel there is the possibility of getting more people to stay but nobody is booking the higher cost rooms, get some people in the higher cost rooms and sell more rooms making more money overall.

Late arrivals is also a good way to get from a lower cost room to a higher priced one as the day already played out and they might have had to take a few rooms off the market or were able to extend some families to stay longer. They need to put you somewhere :)
