Room upgrades....

My family and I are planning our first trip to Disney World during the first week of September. I want to stay in the Wilderness Resort, but $$ will probably require that we stay at the dicounted Movie resort. I've read tons of stuff and think I'm hitting my wall for info overload. I know about asking for upgrades, but what are our chances of getting a great room for little $$ at this time??? Besides the run of the mill info given, what are some of the 'in's' that the veterans do to get a better room?? Also, since this is their slow season, are there other things we should know about that may/may not help??

Try checking out mousesavers.com for three letter codes. There are none out now for Sept. but check daily. These codes give great discounts on hotel rooms. You may be able to upgrade to a moderate for the same or a little more $$. I would recommend the French Quarter if it's open if you want a moderate. It is a compact property and very beatiful. Good luck.

Depending on the length of time you are visiting, you might consider an Annual Pass (AP) for at least one member of your party. We got AP discounts last September 5-9 at the Polynesian. We were able to stay at the Polynesian Concierge for $250 per night (it is usually $400). Also check out the mousesavers.com as the above poster suggested. There are always lots of great codes to be found. I would suggest making ressies now; you can always add discount codes or change resorts later. Have you considered using dreamsunlimitedtravel.com. Their agents find you the best deals ever. (And it costs you nothing!) They are pros at planning a Disney trip.

One thing we like to do when we visit WDW is to split our stay between 2 (or more) resorts, maybe staying 5 nights at the All Stars, then "Moving Up" to Wilderness for the last couple nights. That way we get to enjoy a nicer resort for a couple nights without spending all that money for the whole trip. We also just enjoy trying out all of the different resorts. Disney will even take care of transporting your luggage for you if you wish.

I think September is a great time to visit; you generally get warm weather without the big Summer crowds that can make it hard. We often travel in Oct or Jan, and it's been too cold to visit the water parks or get a lot of use out of the pools.

My advice is to not worry too much about the possibility of a room upgrade, just reserve the room at a resort that you can afford and that you're interested in, and keep your eyes open for a better deal at a fancier place.
