[I just realized this should be moved down to the resort thread!]

We (10 of us, all first-time UFers) have a trip booked for early December 2010, staying at Royal Pacific.
The "we" includes my parents (mid-60s), my sister, her dh and dd, and my family of 5.
With 3 kids, my dh and I like them to have their own space, but we just can't swing the extra $200 per night for the kids' suites.

Any chance of getting a room upgrade once we are there? If it's a slow time, I'm wondering if they'd offer a lower price.

Any ideas??

I've been reading the forums for HOURS today. My mother's day gift to myself! Surfing, guilt-free!

They won't upgrade you from a normal room to a kids suite. Is this what you mean?

Have you thought about going with a deluxe room at the HRH? Looks like it might only be about $100 more a night instead and there is a separate room, study, with a pull out sofa.

Wish the RPH had something like that...we might have to try them out the next stay just to have a little more leg room.

Damo, I should have worded this better. instead of "upgrade", I'm looking for the kids' suite at a discounted price.
I'm wondering if they ever offer that. If we get there and the kids' suites are vacant, would they offer a discount?

Mjohnson, I like the deluxe suite idea. I'll look into it!

Members of Loews "You First" program are eligible for discounted suite upgrades (when available). You need a couple of prior stays before you have enough status to be eligible. Universal Premier Annual Passholders are also eligible for discounted upgrades to suites.

I'll let others comment but I think your chances of a discounted ugprade are very low, unless you're in one of the listed groups. Even then a discounted upgrade won't be offered if the hotel thinks they can sell the suite at a higher price.

You may be setting yourself up for disappointment. Absolutely no reason to think you'll be the guests who'll be given the opportunity for low cost upgrade to a kids suite.

The last time we were at the RPR, we were in a king suite because of our platinum status. I inquired about getting a kids suite instead and they said no. I think the price difference was too much.

You may be able to pay a discounted rate to get a king suite but I don't think you'd be able to get a kids suite.

The deluxe rooms at HRH are very nice and the extra space is great!

Hey, a girl can dream, can't she? :-D
That's just the info I was seeking: if it was even a possibility. Sounds like it's not. We did stay at a Loews in San Diego about 5 years ago, but I doubt that's enough to bump up our status. I know we'll enjoy the standard room just fine.

only problem is, King suites at RPR only sleep 3 people,

Sounds like we better stay with our standard 2-queen room. I know it will be great. Our girls sleep on one bed together and we'll bring a small air mattress for our son. We can't wait!

Thanks for all the info!
