Room upgrades---any advice?

is there a tried and true method in getting a room upgrade, or is it luck of the draw? I know that the resorts fill up in the summer, but I have heard of so many people getting upgrades, so I'm hoping to be so lucky.

I think it is all luck. You will have a little better chance if you check in earlier in the day. If you ask outright for an upgrade, then do so in a very quiet voice.

The only person that I have personally known who received an upgrade went through a travel agent. That may increase your chances a little bit.

I think it's mostly luck. We've always gotten an upgrade from standard to savannah view at AKL but we travel in value season when the resorts are not booked to capacity. Keep your fingers crossed!

We were lucky enough to recieve not one, but TWO complimentary upgrades last week! We were upgraded from standard to courtyard view at wilderness lodge and were also upgraded from pool to arusha savanah view at the animal kingdom.

There was plenty of pixie dust flying around this trip

We try to not hope for an upgrade or any "special" treats...it's when you least expect it that you get the surprise

our first (and only) trip we were upgraded from garden to CASTLE view at GF!! we were VERY excited!!!!! we didn't ask for an upgrade, and we didn't book through a TA. think it was just luck. it was value season too, so the hotel wasn't full. good luck!!
