Now that we've got our plans squared away for our 2012 trip, we are looking ahead to our 2013 trip!!!
DH and I were discussing our options because next year we plan on bringing my FIL (age 65 - never been to Disney). So, we were trying to figure out what the best option would be so that he could have his own "space" and we can have ours. It will be DH and I, our two girls, and FIL. Would a villa be best, or value suite, or two rooms somewhere (thinking POFQ or AKL, I think FIL would LOVE AKL, he's a retired science teacher who loves animals). One thing to consider...he will be having hip replacement surgery in the next 30 days, and should be good as new by the time we want to do our 2013 trip, but, just in case, perhaps we should think of ease of getting around??? Sorry for the rambling, and any suggestions you could provide would be much appreciated! :goodvibes

If he's having hip replacement surg, by 2013 he should be fine.
A 2 bedroom villa is pricy, so I'd go with 2 rooms. AKL is a great choice, WL is also a wonderful resort, and close to MK by boat.

POR is our fav moderate.

With a value suite, who would be in the bedroom- FIL if he wants his own space? Then you and the kids will be stuck in the livingroom on convertable chairs. Wouldn't be my idea of a good time!!

Happy planning.

I would go with AKL or POR with a preferred building location so you are close to the main building.

AKL and POR both have wonderful activities for all ages; and for AKL, having Kidani Village right next door as well as the wonderful restaurants.

I would say book POR for now, and if room discounts come out later, you could upgrade to AKL when it gets closer.

Have a wonderful trip!

Will you plan on going to all the parks? I'm trying to think of resorts that will make it easy for your FIL. Also, will you have a car? Are you planning on cooking any meals or just dining out? Sorry for all the questions.

We have stayed in 2 connecting rooms at CR and that was easy w/the monorail. I know there isn't a guarantee to get connecting rooms, but we have always been lucky.

We have stayed in a 2 bedroom at BLT and the villa was huge!

Also stayed in cabin at FW. The bedroom had a double bed & set of bunks. The living room had a murphy bed & it was comfortable. We did have a golf cart.

I am sure he'd want to do all of the parks. We won't likely cook, we usually get the dining plan. We will not have a car. I should also state that our family is pretty commando style, but DFIL may not be, so I want him to be able to go back to the resort and have things to do....DH and I were talking again and thinking 2 rooms AKL CL might be best, and then that way DFIL could go back if he wants and also have access to the CL lounge for adult beverages and snacks, which I know he would take advantage of. ;)

Hey its only 4 months until we book our 2013 vacation.:woohoo:Maybe we can put off booking until we are positive we have made the right choice. . :rotfl:We took my mom last year and we got two rooms at BW. She paid for her own room. I don't know if he is helping out with the cost or not, but two CL rooms at AKL sounds perfect for him.:cloud9: When we stayed at AKL our room was a mile from the lobby. I would request a room close to lobby if he has mobility issues.

Does FIL play golf? Depending on how they structure any promotions or discounts next year, don't rule out the DVC resorts, they are very close to the golf courses.

I booked my family in a 2 BR @ SSR under the promotion they just extended and it was actually cheaper than 2 rooms at WL, more expensive than 2 rooms at a mod, but we typically stay deluxe anyway.

DH wants to pay for it, but I know DFIL, and I'm sure he'd kick in a good portion...we'll have to see how that pans out. :) he has no mobility issues right now except for his hip problem...despite the hip issue he is still a very active martial arts instructor, and once he gets the hip replacement I'm sure he'll be good as new!!

I think 2 rooms at AKL CL will be great for use of lounge & beautiful lobby. Will he be comfortable using the transportation on his own?

Another suggestion would be BC CL, YC CL or BW CL. Very easy transportation to/from Epcot & Studios. I have stayed BC CL & it is fantastic!

He will be fine on his own...I just want to be sure he'll have stuff to do if he goes back. I could totally see him hanging out in the lodge and bugging the CM's for information about Africa!

Then I think AKL CL will be perfect! Enjoy!

I think this is the perfect solution! There is a lot to do at AKL, and the pool is nice (as is the pool bar ;) ).
