Room size and pool question

Are all of the mods' rooms the same size? My DH thinks that Csr looks bigger.... ?? Also- which one has better or suitable pool for children 5 and 23 months?

Actually the rooms at both PO resorts and CSR are exactly the same size. Among the moderates, CBR was the first moderate built and has the largest rooms at 340 sq feet. CSR, POFQ, and PORS rooms all have 314 sq ft. CBR is also the only moderate that does not yet have queen size beds (only full), so those smaller beds make the rooms seem even larger.

Oops, I just saw your second post. When we took our then 3 y/o GS down there in Feb 2012, we chose POFQ specifically because of the smaller pool slide. He loved that slide and pool. Free life vests are available in the gift shop. However, CSR has by far the better kids playground of all the moderates. We still chose POFQ though, because the resort is so small and compact, no room is very far from anything else, so we knew it would be easier with his little legs, plus we knew he'd like the boat to DTD. The clown masks in the food court did make him a little nervous the first day or two though. However, he loved the alligators and sea serpent slide at the pool. Go figure!

For kids that age all four moderates would have their advantages:

CSR has the most comfortable beds, by far the best kids playground, and has the white sand beaches over in the Cabana section for the kids to play on. I also think that consistently CSR has the best bus service of any WDW resort

POFQ is so small that nothing is very far from anything else, which is great when you are coming in tired at night or need to make a run over to the food court. It shares buses with PORS, but the buses to the parks pick up at POFQ first, so going to the park in the mornings, you should get a seat. We also love the boat to DTD and smaller sea serpent slide at the pool.

PORS has the best food court and boats going to DTD pick up first at PORS. Again we love the boats to DTD

CBR has the largest rooms of all the moderates and also have pretty white sand beaches for the kids to play on. They also have a wonderful kids water play area that has no comparison at the other resorts, and since big kids are not allowed in there, it makes it very nice for little ones. CBR would definitely have the best water experience for kids your age.

Oh wow- thanks... You have given me lots to think about.... My DH likes the room appeal of CSR but I really think that the slide there at the pool is too big.. Would they let me go on it with him? Also in regard to life vests- is that at every resort? I like the small quaintness of the port Orleans..... :/ but DH never gets into planning and cSr appealed to him surprisingly... I'm not sure CBR strikes me either.. :(

POR & POFQ are my fav mods. They have a little more to offer with boat to DTD, family evening entertainment in the lounge. The kids would enjoy Bob Jackson's show at POR. The entertainment at POFQ is nice, but geared more to the older crowd. Bob Jackson's show has a broader appeal. Horse & Carriage rides, & POR has a fishing hole too.
It's a quick walk between the 2 resorts.

No resort will allow 2 people on the slide at the same time.

If you are looking for a small slide, POFQ have a very nicely themed small slide. The resort is much smaller than CSR, so if the pool is important, with small kids I would stay at POFQ. You can end up having quite a walk to get to the themed pool at CSR.

Yeah I figured he would have to go by himself on the slide... Bummer. :( I wonder how many feet the water is or if I could stand there to catch him?

I definitely don't want a long haul to get to the pool at CSR... What buildings are the best to get?

We have spent one night at the FQ.. Just wanted to try something different. :(

The children's water play are at CBR is phenomenal. It is a big pirate ship with little slides and shallow water to splash in. Perfect for little kids. We went when my daughter was 23 months and she adored it. Cant speak highly enough about the pool. I personally liked CBR as a resort, overall. I know some people complain about the size, but I have stayed at CSR too and CBR did not seem any bigger. The difference in room size was not noticeable to me. CBR has two sinks in the bathroom, as opposed to one in CSR. Not sure if that will make a difference to you or not. I felt like CSR had better bus transportation but I HATED their food court. just saying.

In regard to CBR- what building is best to get? Closest to everything? Maybe I'll take another look.

The CSR thread is one of the best maintained threads; I would check it out and it will answer your question.

Mods have more amenities, so it is impossible to be "closest to everything." You need to do a little research and decide what is worth it to you.

In addition, closest to everything can be noisier; I do not know how much I would like to be in the middle of everything.

We love CSR and have stayed there since our kids were very little and they loved it then and still love it now.

There are 3 quiet pools at CSR, so if you didn't want to go to the main pool, you could go to the quiet pool nearest your room. The water at the base of the slide is about 4' deep and you can't wait there for your child, but off to the side. They have life jackets to borrow if he needs one. There's a small baby pool with ankle-deep (on me) water that little ones can splash in.

The deal-breaker for CBR for me personally when I had toddlers was that the buildings don't have elevators. Hauling a stroller up and down stairs is a no-go for me. I've read here on the DIS recently that CBR is upgrading to queen beds, but I don't know if it's already started and how long it will take. I stayed at CBR once when I was in high school and don't remember much about it, except that coming back from the parks there were a lot of stops till we got to our room. CBR has like 7 bus-stops at the resort; CSR has only 4.

Hi!

We have stayed at CSR and CBR. We enjoyed both. Our kids were a lot older than yours when we stayed at both. Both had quiet pools which we used.

If you are going to CBR ask for Jamaica it is across a little island by bridge to the main pool and food court.

At CSR we stayed in the Cabanas and really liked them. We were close to the pool and even closer to main bus stop and Pepper Market. We really loved Pepper Market and preferred it to the food court at CBR.

CSR has the free life vests to use. I loved this and I think it is something available at all the mods.

Happy planning

Thanks everyone for your responses.... I am going to get online tomorrow and do some more research before I make my decision.... The rims at CSR just look so nice compared to the other mods... Thought I had settled one of the port Orleans but then noticed CSR..

There is another thread very similar to this going on right now...Here is what I posted on the other thread.

I would give the edge to CSR...
We stayed at CSR in 2011 and just got back from POR (March trip). Honestly both resorts are beautiful and you are not going to be unhappy with either of them. I will preface this opinion with we are not "relax at the resort" kind of people. Our kids use the pool and we will take walks in the evening. We might eat at the food court, but mainly go there for dessert and evening coffee.
We found CSR easier to navigate. POR has sidewalks that wind back and forth so there is no direct route anywhere...we got turned around more than once. Also, our car was parked directly in front of our room and we had to wind back and forth along the sidewalk. Not a deal breaker, but kind of annoying.
At POR, the elevators could be a really long way from your room. After they put my parents (with noted walking issues) on the second floor, we discovered that they have one elevator for all three buildings and my parents were as far as they could be from it...not convenient. They did move them to a first floor room without a problem.
We thought the food court and the pool was much better at Coronado and we found that the bus service was much more efficient at Coronado as well. We preferred the theming at CSR over POR...it was so beautiful to look out over the lake at night.
So while we did not hate POR...it was a lovely resort...if we had to choose, we would definitely stay at CSR.

Thank you for posting PP! I am just in love with CSR rooms ( love those aqua blue pillows) but in love with POR outside appearance.. UGH.. I am going on a picture hunt right now :)
