Do I understand that you can get sandwiches from room service to take with you on excursions? DH is going to have a stroke if I mention bringing a cooler with us. (He likes to travel light, and I . . . well, you know.)

How does that work? Will room service deliver the sandwiches that morning before you leave the ship? Who has done this before? Help. I need advice. Thanks.

Here is a quote from my latest Passporter book:
"Guests going on all-day excursions have been known to order a couple of sandwiches, have them delivered before departing, keep them cool in the refrigerator, and pack them in resealable bags for a midday snack. Be aware that the Disney Cruise Line does not encourage this, it may be illegal to bring food offboard in some ports, and you are not allowed to bring cooked/opened food back onboard. We do not recommend it."

We ordered 4 PB & J sandwiches and 4 cookies and it worked great. They were the uncrustables so they were in sealed packages and no one said a word. We were on an excurssion that lasted all day and this kept eveyone from getting crabby. We ordered them for morning delivery not knowing they were packaged. I would order them for the night before next time. I would not order a regular sandwich because of the hassle but these were great. We brought a box of gallon size ziplocks with us and that worked great to hold everything in our backpack

Ok, we did this too and I have always had a question??? We we called and ordered the sandwiches, they asked "Are you planning to take these off the ship" I did not know what to say...I was not sure why they were asking. If I said yes, would they pack them up for us or if I said yes, would they tell us they would not bring us the room service??? Anyone else ever been asked that question??

I read this in passporter thought of it, but in the end with so much food on the Magic only required snacks for the kids, there was always something you could buy and then we we got back hit Plutos.

I was worried that the food would go off in the heat, On Med cruises i have been on they gave us Packed lunchs

Honesty is always the best policy.

I was just wondering about this for an excursion on Costa Maya. Anyone know if it is okay to take food off there?

I am just curious about those who do take food off the ship in violation of the laws of many of the places you will dock. How many other of those countries/island's laws do you show your kids that is also ok to violate?

Yes, I know people do it and they don't have food police checking you as you get off the ship but.....
Room Service told me that it is the ships policy not to bring food off the ship.

Does anyone know in which ports it is/isn't legal to take food off of the ship? I'd be particularly interested in knowing if it's o.k. to take food off the ship in Cozumel and Costa Maya. If nothing else, I'm thinking I'd bring a jar of peanut butter with us so that we can pack up some peanut butter crackers in our room before we head out. My DS has Crohn's Disease and is a picky eater on top of that, so we'd either need to bring food for him, or we'll need to head back to the ship when he's hungry.

I'm wondering if they still carry the Uncrustables, I didn't see it on the latest room service offerings. Anyone know as of late? I think thats a terrific thing to take with us and the cookies sound great too!

This covers it:
You are not allowed to bring food, fruits and/or products that are not "company" packed and sealed. And if you are bringing food or products they are allowed only if you need them because of a special diet or for medical reasons.

Just bring some zip lock bags for snacks while ashore (just in case)... what-ever they may be. IE, things from your stores or modest left overs from breakfast or... room service. I would probably draw the line short of a rolling cooler and tupper ware... and the portable microwave oven on top of the rolling cooler. That might be just a little too far over the top! :lmao:

On the other hand... I heard that you cannot bring food off the ship when we return to Port Canaveral. I did not think it was a huge issue in the other ports. And who would bring anything off the ship at Castaway Cay? ... except for medical reasons.

I think it is OK to have power bars, bottled water, and maybe a muffin or what-ever. We have not ever had uncrustables - although we have seen other folks with it while ashore.

I will not purchase food on the islands. My nephew got food poisoning from food ordered at a beachside restaurant in St Marteen. Since then, I have taken cookies on excursions (pick them up at the evening parties) and no one has had any problems. Cookies are enough to tide us over until we get lunch at Pluto's when we get back to the ship mid-afternoon. Better for DCL to send food than to deal with sick passengers.

Pre-packaged foods like uncrustables, granola bars, power bars probably are legal to take off the ship. Fresh foods like sandwichs are not because of the produce and meat in them. Some countries are afraid of bird flu from chicken, and mad cow from beef, so they ban bringing in any of those products. We normally pack power bars or granola bars in our carryons for trips.
