Room service breakfast

From my reading, the room service breakfast is carb heavy, not a good idea for a Type 1 diabetic (me) and a reactive hypoglycemic ( DW). There are six of us traveling together including 2 small children. We thought room service would be the way to go. My question is: can the two of us go up to buffet and carry breakfast to the room. Any ideas are appreciated, I know we can’t be unique. Thanks!

Yes they can

Unless you are concierge class, room service breakfast is continental, so mainly toast, muffins, fruit, and the like. You can go up to Cabanas and bring back a tray or two for your family if you’d like. If you are early risers, Cabanas really isn’t that busy when it opens, especially on sea days. We usually grab a table and then have one parent go thru the buffet to grab food for everyone. The sit down breakfast in one of the dining rooms also has more protein-rich options and usually doesn’t take too long.

Absolutely. I've done it many times. I turn a second plate upside down on top of the plate with food on it to cover the food while I'm carrying it back to the room.

They also have milk and yogurt in small containers that you can take and keep in the small refrigerator that is in your room. We usually get a few so my dd can eat as a snack or late at night if she wants. They also have the little individual containers of cereal that you can take back, along with fresh fruit. Basically you can take back as much of anything that you want. You'll see lots of people taking things back to their cabins.

I love an early breakfast on the veranda and favor a protein-rich breakfast over carb heavy (plus never been wowed by DCL pastries and donuts). So I bring breakfast back with plate cover as noted. When everyone is up and about we'll take the kids back for Mickey Waffles and fruit. At that time, I'll bring back yogurt, fruit (I take small ziplocks), juice and milk. That way the kids have something to eat if one of them wakes up early the next morning. The other bring-back I get is freshly brewed iced tea. I take a large Nalgene bottle and brew my own tea to take back to the room. I don't do anything from the dispensers, especially the tea!

Thank you so much. That was really helpful. We will definitely be doing this and the yogurt idea is great.

don't discount the idea of heading down to the MDR for breakfast too - although the food isn't necessarily spectacular, sometimes it's quite nice to be served breakfast :)

You can definitely do as you suggest. Taking food back to the room is easy and welcomed. (Some things can be stocked up the day before and/or kept in the fridge.)

Just wanted to add one thing that hadn't occurred to me before I started cruising. On the ship, it is much easier to mix and match. Everything is so close, and unlike normal vacations don't require cars etc. So we often got a little bit (coffee, juice, fruit maybe?) delivered to the room first thing (they make you pick a delivery window, but for us they always hit the beginning of it), then a couple of the earlier risers would hit the buffet, then the later risers would hit the sit down breakfast, or vice versa, or in the case of my one son, sometimes all three. It's just a set of options you don't usually have when everyone is tied to a car and a driver or something.

Yes, and get a Chick-fil-A drink carrier and take in suitcase. It folds flat and great to carry drinks back. My hubby will go get my morning tea for me :)
