I just had an interesting thought....

I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how to get my coffee in the morning. BF and I are not big breakfast people, so I planed on just snacking on food we can keep in the room. But I really enjoy coffee! No coffee maker in the room, and I'd hate to have to drag one along (we're flying). And I don't want to make BF be a "mug man" or go to the food court, I want to to save time in the morning by not having to leave the room.

Soooo, I was thinking we'd just order a light breakfast from room service everyday and a cup of coffee along with it. What are room service prices like, and (more importantly) does room service bring Kona coffee, or that NesCafe cr@p?

Here's a link to the Room Service menu.

We have used room service for coffee/light breakfast on occasion at the Poly (every day we were in Tahiti longhouse, and not in concierge). It is a bit pricey, but only you can say if it is "worth it" to you. It was for us on those occasions. My dh is a coffee addict, and when we travel to other places we often bring a small travel coffee maker. They are not large at all, and made with no glass parts, etc. Check them out, it will save you a lot of money if you choose to buy one instead of room service. We do both, it just depends where we are staying, if we are on a club level or concierge level, or staying at a hotel with coffeemakers in the room, etc.

Oh, and it's not Kona from room service, it's "100% Columbian" LOL

Thank you both! Actually, the breakfast prices aren't too bad, the continental breakfast is $10.50 ($16.02 after taxes, tip, and service fees) and comes with coffee. I've paid $8 to $10 for breakfast at the food court in the POFQ, so for a few dollars more I can eat in my p.j.'s, have my coffee, and save some time in the morning!

This is the trip of a lifetime for us, and money isn't really an object this time around. We'll have lots of practice sticking to budgets after we have kids!

Also if I remember correctly the coffee maker does not cost anything to have in the room but they are limited in quantity so reserve it ASAP.

You can buy Kona coffee for it at the Kona Cafe Bar.

How does one go about reserving a coffee maker. I am going to be at the Poly in late September, (Thanks to you Tikiman..I took your advice a while ago and booked. You and many others seem to love it there so I thought why not give it a try!). Anyway, I'm interested in getting a coffee maker for my room while I'm there.
P.S. - Tikiman, how is the Poly on faxed room requests? When I made my reservation, I booked a garden view room in the Tokelau longhouse. Do i need to specitfy this again with a request and if so, should I then include the coffee maker request?

I would just call the Polynesian and have them put on your reservation a request for a coffee maker. Faxed requests are not a good idea. They get many faxes and quite a few junk faxes so your request could get lost in the shuffle. Your travel planner can note your requests when booking or you can call and tell them your request for Tokelau.

Have a great trip.

Aloha

Dear Chicago526,
Last year when we stayed at the Poly I got the coffee maker that they give you and what I did was bring maxwell house filter packs and cremora with me. With Coffee being the juice of life for me, I had to do it this way..But it was quick and easy and i didn't have to leave the room in the AM, Hope this helps! Have a great vacation.

What??? The coffee from room service isn't Kona?

I was hoping to have room service breakfast a few mornings on the balcony and have Kona coffee in the french press. Why won't they do this for the guests???? Doesn't make any sense to me since it's one of the perks of being at the Poly. I'd certainly be happy to pay more for it.

Do they say no if you specifically request it?

Thanks, everyone! A small coffee maker may do the trick (or asking for one from the Poly), but I think we may still do room service some morings, after all , there's nothing like breakfast in bed while on vacation!
