Good Morning All! I have a quick question that I really hope someone can help me with. Our last visit to WDW was last February and I very vividly remember as part of the online check-in process for our trip to the VWL that I actually picked out a room a couple of days before we were due to arrive. Does this still happen?? We are 8 days out from our next trip and don't see anything like this as far as our online check-in process goes. I have some rooms picked out to request because we are traveling with a large group and would like to try to stick together as best we can, and I know I could send in a room request. But I really remember seeing what rooms were available to us and picking them out that way.
Sooooo, big question is...am I crazy??

Thanks a bunch,
Nicki

No request is guaranteed.. It's just that a request. What I would do is call the resort and politely explain my needs and ask if you can have rooms near each other added to the ressie. Be polite, clear in what you are asking and then understand they usually do their best to accommodate.

I get that, we're long time, very polite WDW travelers, last year was the one and only time that I remember doing it the way I described in the post, and honestly at the time it meant so little to me that I don't even remember if we got the room we requested, we are always just happy to be there. I am only asking if the process of selecting a room in that manner happens regularly or if it was just a test, or if I imagined it all.

In many trips to WDW, I've never had anything like that. I don't know if it was a test, or you're dreaming. :)

Thanks, we have been on a Disney cruise and I do remember selecting that room. It's a consensus... Will prepare room requests to old-fashioned way. Thank you all for responding so quickly.

Do you belong to Touring Plans? There you can submit a fax for specific rooms. Again, not guaranteed, but they fax in more specific requests for you. Maybe that's what you're remembering?

this was my guess too. touring plans started facing room numbers not long before our trip last May, I think. through their room selector (which is an imperfect tool, at times) you could request specific rooms. there's also a text box where you can leave more detailed, free form requests (corner room...)

The only thing I can think of was the touring plans room request fax also, like the pp's mentioned. Were you a subscriber there at that time?

In nearly 20 years of on site trips, I have never heard of Disney allowing choosing rooms pre checkin. I agree with PP though Touring Plans did start a fax request service for subscribers and it works somewhat like you describe - could that have been it?

There are some hotel chains that allow you to choose a room from a selection tool during the online check in process - Hilton does it at some of their hotels. But Disney has never had such a process at their resorts, not even on a trial basis.

Hilton brand hotels allow that, but I've never heard of it at Disney.

From their signature, their last stay was in 2008, so it's not a new touringplans thing.

Their last stay was before our first stay, in 2010, and we didn't have anything like that in online checkin then.

oops, haven't updated my signature in quite awhile, have visited multiple times since then, but forgot I had a signature... sorry guys,
thank you to all who suggested Touring Plans, it could have been that.
ok...we can be done now, lol.

I've never seen what rooms are available and being able to choose one at Disney. I've seen it in Hilton brand hotels.

I saw on another post that via online check in that depending on which resort there will be different "requests" you can select up to 3....some examples are what kind of view, close to elevator, which building, close to lobby, what floor level, etc. Keep in mind that if you did not pay for preferred room you wont be as close as you could be. But could be closer then the last building.

Never saw that on Disney, but I do pick on Hilton. Online check in will give you two "requests" but in your case I would call and have important request added to reservation.

I personally would not ask for specific rooms especially since you have more than one. Odds would be against you. I would request to be close together and maybe a desired area.

I've been going 2x a year for many years and never had an offer to pick my own room. Just general requests, high floor, low floor, near lobby, transportation, which building, etc.
