Room Reservation into a Package

We will be visiting for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend in November and I booked a room at the Art of Animation resort months ago. I thought I could add tickets and dining, as long as I had the room reserved before they sold out. When I called to switch to a package, however, the agent on the phone said they would need to act like they were booking a new package entirely and start from scratch. Since there is no availability at any resort for our dates, I was told we were out of luck. I’ve been checking all week for cancellations but nothing has shown up. I would like to book as a package so that I can take advantage of the financing with the Disney Visa. Are there any tip or tricks for getting the tickets and dining into a package with the room I have already? Thanks!

Are you booking for the same number of days?

Is it a special deal package that you were looking to add? Or just add on tickets and dining at their normal price?

I checked for deals for these dates but I didn’t see anything so I was planning to just add the tickets and dining at normal price. I know I could buy tickets separately and link them to my account, but then I don’t think I would be able to finance as a “package”.

Unfortunately, you can't just add tickets and/or dining to a RO reservation. When changing reservation types (RO to package or package to RO), you have to cancel and rebook. Since RO and packages are different reservation systems, money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other. I would call back and ask to speak to someone in guest services. Since there is no availability with the resort/room type you have booked, a guest services CM is the only one who can help as a regular reservation CM does not have the ability to make that change without you losing the room. It is not guaranteed guest services will make the change, but they are usually accommodating in these instances. Good luck!

What sort of financing do you mean?

With room only, you pay the one-night deposit, and the rest is due when you check in.
For tickets, you would buy them outright, from wherever you choose. If you're going to do the 60 day FP+s, you need them at least 60 days out. I believe packages have to be paid off at 45, so that's not THAT long between when you would have to pay it *all* at 45 days vs just pay for the tickets at 60 days.

Did you ask them about a "ticketless package", which would give you dining?

OP wants to pay for her package with a Disney Visa which would give her 6 months with 0% financing on her credit card. 0% financing only applies to WDTC packages, not room-only reservations.

Exactly! The agent on the phone also said there was not availability for a ticketless package.

Call again. Chances are that you’ll get someone who can book a ticketless package. There is no reason that they can’t add the dining plan.
