Do you find that asking for specific room numbers is better or requests such as high floor, theme park view?

I asked for specific room numbers that had theme park view at vgc this month and got a pool view.

I know that resort is small, but just wondering if we handicapped our chances cuz we gave them 4 different specific room numbers and it would have just been better to say we really wanted a tpv if possible

I think a lot of it depends on the resort. BWV I have the worst luck with usually completely missing the mark where others like BCV at least will honor part of my request to be on the second floor for the huge balcony. OKW on the other hand I have received the exact room that was requested.

I've only stayed once so I think I need to recalibrate my strategy because it was completely off 🤣🤣

Do you request thru chat?
They submit it for you. So you pick the room on their room layout map, it tells you want to request, then you can edit the text slightly if needed.

It saves it then submits 30 days before Checkin.

Have always gotten close to what we want normally if not exactly what we want and used them for years.

Oh wow I didn't know they did that, I'll look into it!

Whenever I end up in a villa no where near what I requested, I always politely ask if they were informed of my location preference/request - not to complain, but because I’m curious whether my request was lost or noted but they were unable to meet it & usually they’ll tell me the request was noted & say something like we’re 100% occupied.
I’ve used email, calling MS, & chat to make location requests & no one method has yielded better/worse results. I tend to go w/ very general requests, though.

I asked them at the front desk and she said there was nothing notated which irritated me because I called and spoke to MS and the agent told me she put in the request.

I really want that tpv for the summer, but it will be what it is, this time I didnt put room numbers and I just put high floor theme park view so we shall see!

I thought I had heard Touring Plans fax submittal cant be used for DVC rooms not booked on cash?

I have read that asking for a specific room number is not good because if you cant get that room they have nothing else to go on. So you need to specify what your goal is and also give room number examples. Also, checking in at desk if you aren't in need of the room asap you can always talk to the check in desk.

I figured that, I will be more clear with requests and room number examples, probably the best thing to do, thanks!

Do you request thru chat?
I have requested thru chat. It did work for me but I only have one data point.

At the end it does vary by resort. It mostly depend on how busy the resort is, how many people requested before you, and how specific your request is.
Say if there are only 6 rooms that meet your request and there are 6 reservations with the same request earlier than yours, your room will be arranged upon availability and the operator's mood.

I think there are two systems. One that MS enter the request, which is then transferred to the other system in the resort at certain time points (maybe close to when rooms are assigned, like couple weeks earlier than arrival date).
I have no idea how the operator reads it but I would not recommend a long one, as you never know it will be truncated or not.
Also, there is a possibility to call Guest Service a week or so before arrival to double check if the request is there, though it does not necessarily help.

So, my another suggestion is: don't be too obsessed with views of specific rooms you see online. Because you might drive your expectation too high, and you are not the only one can see them. At the same time, you can figure out a wider range that would be satisfying for you

Never submit through chat. It did not work for us at all
Chat notes them same as calling for cash bookings. I’ve had bad luck with room requests and tried chatting then calling on a cash booking closer in just to be told the request was already noted. While I’m generally not a fan of chat, in this instance it’s the exact same result as calling- a note is placed on your res. From there it’s up to the resort and luck of the draw on when you’re checking in.
