Room Requests -- specific room or general range?

Hi -- I plan to make a room request. I've never used the Touring Plans room request feature, but I'm considering doing so. However, Touring Plans seems to make you pick one room for the request. If that room isn't available, will they try to put you in a similar room (say 4th floor instead of 5th floor)? I'm generally fine with a range of rooms (VGF standard view rooms that face the pool area). In the past, I'd call member services and give a range (anything above the first floor facing the pool). It hasn't always worked.

I've always made my requests through the DVCMember website, either when I'm calling about something anyways (I never call just for requests) or I use the Chat feature. I've never requested a specific room or even specific floor (although HHI is an exception to that-there I request top floor). Just "upper floor" and the type of view. The one time I requested "either room **** or a room near it", I got a room that (I sometimes think was done purposely) as far away as possible-in a whole other wing. After that I've never named room numbers, or even a range of numbers.

I email member services with my request and I usually enter a room range (like you see on the resort maps) and building if it is a resort with multiple buildings. I usually list two ranges and note I realize requests are not guaranteed. I have always gotten a room in the range I requested.

Same as posters above, I usually submit my requests to MS via email on the member website, and I usually state what my desires are e.g. "near tennis courts" for a standard view villa, "view of quiet pool" for a G/P view, etc. I've read, and it makes sense to me, that if you request a specific room and that room isn't available, the CM making room assignments has no idea what qualities led you to request that room, so they're more likely to put you anywhere.

I give member services 5 or 6 room numbers, it has worked out more often than not. Also give touring plans the same numbers.

For BWV Boardwalk view studio, I give them 5029,5031, 4029, 4031, 3029, 3031. Those are the closest studios to the elevator, not on 2nd floor. Got 4031 last time, 4029 time before.

Thanks so much for the replies! I will plan to note several room number and probably email MS. I’m glad this has worked for others.

I emailed MS and requested ”close to the elevator“ - to avoid the long hallway. I arrived at 8am and stopped at the front desk about something else and inquired about my room. She said “well since you requested close to elevator we assigned you first floor!“ So glad I asked because I hate the first floor. She made a couple of calls and got me reassigned. Guess I was punished for this since my room wasn’t ready until 6:30!
