Room request

Putting them on more than once doesn't increase the odds. The TP fax, calling them in, or using the online check-in menu (assuming your requests are there) each put the requests on your reservation whichever comes in first. The others would likely get a check to make sure they are on there, but I doubt they are putting "This was faxed in as well" on there.
The only way putting it on there more than once can help is if one of the other methods fails (see my above post) so it does increase the odds that at least 1 of the methods sticks. But you are right, it doesn't increase your odds of getting your request, just increases the odds that a request actually makes it to the room assigner.

I am planning to just use TP fax...I don't get the impression that there is any advantage to putting request in both places...so why risk a miscommunication trying to mirror the request via phone. I meant "increase my odds" by following veteran DISer advice on how to handle making a request.

Glad to help out where I can.

I look at it different than a lot of others. Some think you should make your request only 1 way. I do not. I think you can make it as many ways as you want, as long as they are all exactly the same. If you can do that, there won't be any risk of confusion. And, if one method doesn't work, or stick, then another stands getting through.
For instance, if the fax fails for some reason (because let's face it, we all know fax machines do fail, paper or electronic) or if the MDX request glitches (because let's face it, we've all seen glitches on MDX) or if you call and the request made via phone doesn't get saved (yes, sometimes they do get lost off the reservation)
So I would indeed use the fax service to request a room and then use online check in and check a box that also matches features the room has (if the choices match). I rarely call and add any requests since mine are never specific enough to need to call.

Thanks. I will be sure to look at the online check in request options just In case any "match" the faxed request.

Gotcha. Understood. :)

I used Touring Plans for my room request - Ft. Wilderness Cabins. I requested a specific cabin with two more additional choices - did not use on line check in. We got the to resort around 10AM and when they pulled up the reservation the request was there. The CM told us we could get a different room right away or wait for the specific room. We chose to wait and got the text at 3:10PM that our requested room was ready.

We got extremely close to the room we requested both times we used TP. I already have it set for our next trip in September.

We did not get our request. I didn’t check the early checkin button online (that I know of!) but LITERALLY the minute we stepped off the bus at 10:30 am, we got the notice our room was ready. It was kind of nice after getting up at 3 am to be able to relax in our room for a bit. We had a nice, quiet, monorail view room so no disappointment at all.

When we went last November, we got the room next door to the one I requested at the Poly! Can't get much closer than that. We used TP to make the request, about 2 weeks before the trip.

You may not have checked the button but if you registered for ME they do know your arrival time and often try to match you up anyway, even if you don't check the room ready early button. I've noticed on many stays I get my first room alert text at the same time as our flight is due to arrive. It's not 100% but it's darn close. Too often to be a coincidence.
