Room request for DL and DC hotels

We will be at Disneyland in Nov. for first time. We are using DVC points and will split the trip between Disneyland hotel and Disney Californian. We are booking three rooms and have a mixture of small children and seniors. I would appreciate any suggestions on what area of each hotel to request.

I also remember reading a post a about faxing a request for a room upgrade. How would this work and what do you ask for?

Do either hotel have refrig in rooms?

Any info that anyone has would be so appreciated!
