Room request - Best way?

I know it is not a guarantee, but what is the best way to request a room?
We’re arriving on July 5th. How early should I do it? Fax? Call? Email?

Any help is appreciated.

Call member services and have it noted on your reservation. Resorts don't even accept faxes any more except for some random POR reports I saw recently.

Online checkin is definitely unreliable. My recent trip included 5 ressies and most didn't show up that I thought I did (and had confirmations from online checkin res system for).

DVC will not accept any faxes. You can email MS with your request. Just include your reservation number on the email.

Use the contact form on the member website. It is accepted by MS where an email requires additional security steps.

Honestly, I don't think they even look at room requests when making the assignments. I never get my request on the first try. Occasionally with an accommodating CM, if I look sad and say I was really wanting "***" they will find something closer to my request. I'm not whining, I know it's not guaranteed - this is just my unsolicited opinion, which I love to give.

We've only gotten one request. But it seems like other people have better luck.

My plane lands at 8:30 in the morning so when I get to BCV, I'll check in and make my request and then hang at the pool and see what happens. Last year they put us on the first floor looking at the quiet pool and I thought we would hate it. We actually loved being next to the quiet pool and sitting at a poolside table and chairs and hanging out while the kids hung out in the room if they wanted.
I was just curious if room requests were still viable. In the 14 years we've owned, I never asked. Thanks everyone.

I emailed member services my BLT request for March about a month before. Even number room, north side (lake view, which is actually a MK view). Got it!

For this years trip, we requested a big balcony for BCV which we got...

And for BVW a room on the ground floor across the bus stop or the highest floor. We got the ground floor request and actually loved it.

So far I've been getting most of my room requests. One time we arrived at Jambo and our assigned room was not ready and I asked if there are other rooms already available and they switched me.

I get what I request about 75% of the time. I always call MS to make any request when I first book the unit. Even now with on-line booking I call as soon as possible after booking to make my requests.
I hope I didn't just "jinx" myself.
