Heading to Disney in September, which building should we request at CSR? What are the chances of actually getting a room request honored?
Thanks!
If you can't make out details of the map (below), the main bldg is marked "A" but continues all the way to "C." The blue areas of the main bldg are for food: grab and go, food court, lounge and table service dining.
Casitas. Casitas are the bldgs at the bottom of the map. They represent more urban Mexico. There's lots of fountains, plazas and courtyards. I really enjoyed our stay in the Casitas 3 bldg last September. Casitas 1, 2, & 3 had continuous covered walkways to the main bldg, and that was nice during our rainy stay. These bldgs have a Preferred rate. It was $15/nite during our stay last September. Casitas has a nice pool there, fitness center and spa. However, these amenities are closing in July for refurb and won't re-open until October. I've read that the upcoming resort room refurbs will start there, too, at Casitas bldg. 4. But the room refurb plan is only a rumor now. I've also read, unofficially, that the fitness center will open a temporary facility somewhere within Casitas 1, 2 or 3.
Casitas 5 is nice, and it's a standard room rate, but I'm wondering about construction noise next door at Casitas bldg 4. And, without the pool, you might want to look elsewhere.
Cabanas. Cabanas bldgs are color-coded dark orange, on the top right of the map. These bldgs have a sort-of coastal Mexico flavor. There's a lagoon there, which makes this section more private. Guests going to/from the Dig Site pool skip the lagoon and cross a bridge that's closer to the lake. Cabanas 9B is the bldg closest to the main bldg. This is a preferred bldg, too. It's called Business Class and has a less elaborate club level lounge than club level at the Deluxe resorts. There's breakfast and dinner items but nothing to replace an actual meal. There is alcohol, soft drinks, tea and coffee. Rooms are a little nicer equipped than standard, and $50 extra for this/nite. Next bldg is
Cabanas 9A. This might be a good choice for you. Not far from the main bldg, Cabanas pool is right there. What you referred to as Ranchos 8 is probably Cabanas bldg 8A or 8B. They are the next bldgs down from Cabanas 9A. You're starting to get farther from the main bldg. However, Cabanas 8A is very near to the main Dig Site pool which has some lite food at Siesta's Cantina, and a refillable mug station.
Ranchos. Ranchos represents rural, arid Mexico. Really very pretty and peaceful. Ranchos 7B is close to the Dig Site pool and adjacent to the Ranchos pool. Ranchos bldgs are farthest away from the main bldg. I think people mostly note a preference for Ranchos 7B over the other bldgs in the Ranchos section.
General notes. Some people mind the walk around the lake, while others do not. The main walkway is very wide, and you'll see joggers there at all hours. The walkway path is 0.9 miles around. The Disney buses that circle the perimeter of the resort also serve to take guests around to different locations within the resort. Casitas 1, 2, 3, and Cabanas 9B will have many people in business attire because of conventions and seminars being held in meeting facilities ("B") at the main bldg.
