Heading to Disney in September, which building should we request at CSR? What are the chances of actually getting a room request honored?

Thanks!

It depends what you are looking for. Close to the dig site pool? Close to El Centro? Close to a bus stop?

It is 100% dependent on occupancy and how many others request the same thing so it's impossible to say.

Agree with dansdad. Your needs will dictate the best building to request, because some rooms are close to the pool, some rooms are on the first bus stop and close to the restaurants, and some rooms are quiet.

Personally, I like Casitas for proximity to the food court and first bus stop. But I don't like being lumped in with the convention attendees. Creates a different atmophere for me. I also like Cabanas for the proximity to the pool, but I don't like being on the last bus stop. So it depends on what's most important to you.

I thinkRanchos 8? I read that it is close to pool and main building? Open to suggestions though...

Not sure yet if we will use transportation or our own vehicle. That is a whole other question! We do want to be close to pool, but would also like to be close to food court to get coffee in morning, snacks, wtc.

If you are in a standard room (not preferred or business class), then we like Casitas 4. It is close to the first pick up and drop off bus stop, not too far from El Centro (dining, check in, shopping), close to a quiet pool and laundry. It is a bit of a walk to the themed pool. It is our first choice.

Another good option is Cabanas 8 A or B or 9A. These are nearer to the themed pool and play area but still not far from El Centro. this would be our second choice area.

If you prefer more quiet solitude and a desert like theme then the Ranchos are interesting and close to the main pool. However, they are a fairly long way from everything else. WE try to avoid staying here.

Ranchos 8A is relatively close to the main pool but it's a haul to the main buildings where the store, food court, restaurants, front desk, etc. are. Ranchos are remotely located and as mentioned above, are ideal for someone who prefers quiet and doesn't have a need to go back and forth to El Centro. Or someone who has a car. I do think Ranchos is the nicest aesthetically, however.

For the MK, it is a good idea to use WDW transportation. Much easier than parking, tram, then monorail or boat. you are dropped off at the park entrance.

Other parks, it is up to you. Some people like to use their own cars rather than wait for buses. others prefer not to drive when on vacation.

If you will use your own car, then Cabanas 8A or 8B (or even 9A) would probably be a good choice.

Yes, these are cabanas, be careful not to ask for Ranchos (unless this is where you really DO want to be, of course!). 8A and 8B are Cabana buildings that are very close to the Ranchos, though.

If you can't make out details of the map (below), the main bldg is marked "A" but continues all the way to "C." The blue areas of the main bldg are for food: grab and go, food court, lounge and table service dining.

Casitas. Casitas are the bldgs at the bottom of the map. They represent more urban Mexico. There's lots of fountains, plazas and courtyards. I really enjoyed our stay in the Casitas 3 bldg last September. Casitas 1, 2, & 3 had continuous covered walkways to the main bldg, and that was nice during our rainy stay. These bldgs have a Preferred rate. It was $15/nite during our stay last September. Casitas has a nice pool there, fitness center and spa. However, these amenities are closing in July for refurb and won't re-open until October. I've read that the upcoming resort room refurbs will start there, too, at Casitas bldg. 4. But the room refurb plan is only a rumor now. I've also read, unofficially, that the fitness center will open a temporary facility somewhere within Casitas 1, 2 or 3.

Casitas 5 is nice, and it's a standard room rate, but I'm wondering about construction noise next door at Casitas bldg 4. And, without the pool, you might want to look elsewhere.

Cabanas. Cabanas bldgs are color-coded dark orange, on the top right of the map. These bldgs have a sort-of coastal Mexico flavor. There's a lagoon there, which makes this section more private. Guests going to/from the Dig Site pool skip the lagoon and cross a bridge that's closer to the lake. Cabanas 9B is the bldg closest to the main bldg. This is a preferred bldg, too. It's called Business Class and has a less elaborate club level lounge than club level at the Deluxe resorts. There's breakfast and dinner items but nothing to replace an actual meal. There is alcohol, soft drinks, tea and coffee. Rooms are a little nicer equipped than standard, and $50 extra for this/nite. Next bldg is Cabanas 9A. This might be a good choice for you. Not far from the main bldg, Cabanas pool is right there. What you referred to as Ranchos 8 is probably Cabanas bldg 8A or 8B. They are the next bldgs down from Cabanas 9A. You're starting to get farther from the main bldg. However, Cabanas 8A is very near to the main Dig Site pool which has some lite food at Siesta's Cantina, and a refillable mug station.

Ranchos. Ranchos represents rural, arid Mexico. Really very pretty and peaceful. Ranchos 7B is close to the Dig Site pool and adjacent to the Ranchos pool. Ranchos bldgs are farthest away from the main bldg. I think people mostly note a preference for Ranchos 7B over the other bldgs in the Ranchos section.

General notes. Some people mind the walk around the lake, while others do not. The main walkway is very wide, and you'll see joggers there at all hours. The walkway path is 0.9 miles around. The Disney buses that circle the perimeter of the resort also serve to take guests around to different locations within the resort. Casitas 1, 2, 3, and Cabanas 9B will have many people in business attire because of conventions and seminars being held in meeting facilities ("B") at the main bldg.

Here's a map of CSR:

We have stayed there several times, we always request Casitas bldg 4 and only once was that request not filled. We like the Casitas for theme and location to the first bus stop. As far as conventions go, only one time were we slightly bothered by them--they were just a rowdy drinking bunch that seemed to clog up most of the El Centro every evening. Usually you don't know they are there. The Maya Grill is great with some live music and excellent service, food is pretty good too. The quiet pools are nice, the main pool is beautiful as are the grounds. Having stayed at the Poly for years, we find that CSR is just as beautiful and feels just as "deluxe" minus the monorail. Enjoy your trip!!

When I stayed in November I was told it's easier to get requests in Casitas instead of Cabanas as the buildings are taller to there are more rooms. I had requested Cabanas but got Casitas 4. The only negative I can say about Casitas 4 is it's a bit of a walk form the digsite but other than that it's a great location. If you are interested in laundry or the workout room Casitas 4 is an excellent location.

We LOVE the Cabanas. They're between El Centro and the Dig Site, and their bus stop is better than the one at El Centro.

Stayed in Cabanas 8 and did not like it for all the pedestrian and golf cart traffic that uses the paths on either side heading to main hub and the bus stop. It was noisy late in evenings and worse early in morning.

We have stayed in ALL the areas and Ranchos is our absolute favorite. The most imagineered theme and we truly feel we are someplace unusual. Very quiet. The bus stop is close and we are a minute or so to walk to the Main Pool. On the few occasions we go to the Main Hub to eat it really is only about a 5 minute walk if we weren't stopping to look at the wildlife in the water if you go via Cabanas. We love 6B. (Map is deceiving, Casitas 5 is a longer walk than you would think. We avoid walking that way.)

The main pool has quick service and fountains to fill your refillable mug so other than a couple meals we have no need to walk to the main hub.

We will be staying at CSR for the first time in October and we would like to be closer to the Dig Site pool and not too far from the main building. With that said, I requested to be in the Cabanas area, after looking at the resort map, that area seems to be right where we would like to be. But like with any request, it just a request so I am crossing my fingers we get it :goodvibes.

I've heard that there is a drink machine and coffee at the Dig Site in the morning.. Is this true? That would be very convenient for someone wanting to stay in the Ranchos section.

We stayed in Dec of 2013, requested Cabanas but got Casitas 4. It was quite a haul to the dig site and el centro but it was right by the first bus stop so it was perfect. The Dig Site does have a nice Quick Service restaurant right by the pool so there's that. We ended up going back to the pool in the afternoon for smores and then got on the cabanas bus stop where the bus was pretty much already full.
