We are thinking of becoming a DVC member. We are a family of four. Can a club member advise us if a studio is acceptable for say a 5-7 day stay or do we need a bigger room? Can you describe the rooms. How many extra points are rooms with nice views? Thanks.....

You'll get as many opinions as there are members. You can look at floorplans at dvcresorts.com I believe. Here are some things to think about as you make your choice:

1) Ages of everyone in the room - except in the two/three
bedrooms, your kids could be sharing a bed. How
amenable are they to doing this?

2) Needs for privacy - affects sleeping arrangements, bath-
rooms, number TV's you'll want - basically the same needs
as at home.

3) Who will be sleeping with whom - you'll be more likely to
get younger siblings to sleep in the same bed.

4) Need for a full kitchen - If you plan to cook, the 1, 2, & 3
bedrooms have kitchen. They also have washer/dryers.

5) How much time you'll actually spend in the room - for us,
spaciousness isn't really an issue. DD is 9 and doesn't
ask for alot of room or privacy. If all you plan to do there is
sleep, then you can conserve points by going with smaller
quarters. We had a birthday party for DD last year and
entertained a dozen people - extra room was an asset.

I'm sure the others can add to this list. It really depends on what needs you want to meet.

If your points will allow it , I would reccomend the 1BR to start. Or you could do a combination at the same resort. First 3 days a studio.....next 3 days a 1BR. Then you can decide for yourself, which is better for your family.......the next trip down.

A lot depends on you and your kids... how old are they? DO they mind sharing a bed? Do they still takes naps.... this was a biggy for us.... we need at least a one bedroom just for the girls naps.... it is soooo nice to have a livingroom and kitchen, to hang out in while they sleep in the MB.

Old Key West has the largest studios of all the DVC resorts. But all are roomie and have a mini kitchenette. The fridge is wonderful, esp when you have kids.... :)

Hope that helped....

COACHSTING....do you stay in regular hotel rooms now? If that works, then the studio will be fine as it is larger than most hotel rooms (including Disney resorts) with nice amenities such as small refrigerator, microwave, toaster and coffee maker.

And be warned if you follow ncligs advice....once you stay in a 1BR you will find it difficult to go back! The full kitchen, jacuzzi bath and separate sleeping quarters make it an experience hard to give up the next time.

Good luck!

Coachsting,

there really isn't any difference in points for rooms with good views at any of the DVC resorts with the exception of the Boardwalk Villas. The standard room points are comparable to OKW point values and only make up less than10% of the rooms, but the preferred views points values are the same as VWL and BCV.

What really makes a difference in points values is WHEN you go. I always visit in either January or September so DVC was perfect for me!

I have been reading too many posts the last week to the point that I am now really confused..... We have two teenagers, a boy and a girl. If we go, I guess that we need at least two queen beds, even iof one is a pullout.

Also can you explain the issue of views at the Beach Club? It sounds like it's first come first serve with no extra fee...if I am following correctly.

We KNOW we should have done this years ago, as we go on average 1-2 times a year.

As we ponder it more, we plan on going to the Poly next month and are hoping, if we make the plunge, that our time next month can be deducted somehow from the math.

We appreciate any and all help.....

If you have two teenagers, boy and girl, it's not likely they'll want to end up in the same bed, or in bed with either of their parents. They'll likely want some privacy, too. I think the minimum for you would be a 1-bedroom unit, bringing along your own air mattress. A 2-bedroom would likely be most comfortable.

As to views, it's not first come, first-served. I booked a trip for two weeks ago in March, on the first day booking was available. I requested an Epcot view and didn't get it. I don't know if that's because there are no 1-bedrooms (which we were in) with that view, or how those things are handled. You can request what you'd like; after that it's up to the vacation gods.

Hope that helps.

coachsting, I don't know what ages your teenagers are but my kids are 20 and 17. We just bought at BCV and are planning on reserving 2 studios next summer as they are old enough to stay in a separate room and it doesn't really matter how close their room is to ours. For the past 2 years, we have reserved 2 hotel rooms for our WDW vacation. Last year they were connecting but this year, the second year was a few doors down the hallway. It worked out fine both times.

We thought about a one bedroom but we would still be facing the same issues of sharing a bed as mentioned in the other posts or bringing along an air mattress and no one wants to sleep on the air mattress. Plus you can usually reserve 2 studios, which technically sleep 8, for the same # of points as a 1 bedroom and for much less points than a 2 bedroom. And sometimes, one of our DKs want to bring a friend along at the last minute so we would be over the limit in a one-bedroom. Of course, you do give up the washer and dryer, king size bed and full kitchen, but you do have 2 full baths and some extra privacy.

Just wanted to share another option that has worked for us in the past and hopefully, will continue to work now that we are DVC members.
