Room-only AAA discount - confused!

My DH called yesterday to add a room-only AAA discount to our room-only reservation in October, but the CM said the discounts only went to Aug. 13. He took her word for it, but I knew (thank you boards!) that date was for GP packages with codes. I had him call back and the new CM said it was no problem to add the discount. He took our AAA number and put DH on hold... and never came back!

So before we call again, is it even possible to add a room-only AAA discount to a reservation? I thought I read here and at Mousesavers it was typically a 10%-20% discount.

Thank you!

AAA prices are through 12/31/2011...go get a brochure from the local office with the prices listed or just have them price something for you. They don't have to book it.

I'll call AAA to find out about the rates. Thank you!

Since I'm sure I want to add the discount, can I actually do that through WDW CRO?

I booked through AAA and I did all my ADR's not because I had to because I wanted to. She is watching for discounts to apply them if they "pop" up. So, far .... October, nada. You can apply discounts if booking directly through Disney as well if they come up, no reason I can think of as to why you couldn't.

I'm afraid I haven't been clear enough... Many hotels have a AAA rate. I read here and elsewhere that WDW resorts have a AAA rate as well; usually 10-20% off. Twice when we've called, the CMs have been confused.

I'm curious to know if the AAA rate actually exists, and if you can just call CRO with your AAA card and get it.

Thank you!

I called and added a day, room-only, to the front of our reservation. I called back a day or two later and was able to add the AAA discount. It was 10%.

Okay! Good to know! :thumbsup2 Not sure why TWO CMs couldn't do this. We will try again tonight. Thanks!

Yes. Yes it does. I know because I'm booked for mid-October with a AAA rate. Whether you can just call with your AAA card and get it, I'm not sure. I just went through my local AAA office and had them book everything. It's been much easier. Is there a reason your AAA office can't do it for you?

They do have it. However, it is not for every room. There are only so many AAA discounted rooms per resort. The last time I was going with a AAA discount I had to be flexible with accommodations.

Yes, you can call and get it added to a room-only reservation, if there are still AAA rooms available. I always make my reservation with it so I don't have to modify it later. You can do it through CRO. Only if you want a package do you have to go through AAA.

Yes, I just called and added AAA, it was 15% discount at BC but if I don't get a better discount we will probably stay someplace else because the cost is still really high.

Yes, we did exactly that when booking our room for our November 2008 trip. Called CRO, gave them our AAA number and received the discount. Our confirmation even said something like "AAA rate" or "AAA discount".

We didn't use the AAA discount for our 2010 trip because we had gotten a pin.

I have a room booked at Coronado Springs with an AAA discount. I asked my travel agent to check on the availability of an All Star Family Suite, and she told me one was available, but without the AAA discount. It is very odd indeed, because I have always been able to get an AAA discount, even on the Family Suites.

I have her checking to see if we cold get 2 Value rooms and get the AAA discount. I would much rather have a Family Suite, but if it makes a big enough difference in cost, maybe we will have to go with 2 rooms instead.

I just received a message from my TA. The only Value resort that even has a room available with an AAA discount for my time frame (Oct 20-24) is the All Star Movies. Preferred rooms only. And the discount is only 10% at that. Pittiful.

I just booked two rooms for July of next year with an AAA discount (10%). I went through a travel agent. I'm still hoping for a pin code or GP discount though! ;)

OK, this is sort of OT, and I don't know if it applies at Disney resorts...

I worked for years in large hotel chains. We offered the AAA discount, which was 20% off the rack rate- the standard highest rate for the room. We also offered all kinds of other discounts, many of which were much, much better.

As an example, at one hotel, the AAA rate was 20% off $320.00 a night. $256.00: a good deal, right? Nope... for the same night, we had a weekend special that got you the room for $59.00, AND you got a full breakfast. I can remember people calling and DEMANDING the AAA rate, and refusing to listen to anything else. I was once told that we were REQUIRED to give the AAA rate, and the lady insisted on it. She got it.

My point is, you should always look at all of your options: and Disney has lots. Not necessarily Disney advice, but always ask for the best deal.

Can you use the AAA rate for the room portion, but still have it as a package with tickets?

Yes, but this cannot be booked through Disney or another travel agent. You must go through AAA for a package with the AAA room discount.
