Is anyone your child's class Room Mother? I just volunteered for this "position" in my dh's preschool room. I have no idea what this involves. What have you had to do?

I loved being a room mother in DD's class. I did it every year till middle school. We always were in charge of holiday parties, helping the teacher with special events & going on the class trip. It's alot of fun and very rewarding. You really get to know the kids and it's great to see them having fun at parties and what not. I think you'll love it. The only down side is the room mothers usually end up paying for most of the food and favors for the parties.

I've been room parent many times, from kindergarten to fifth grade (my DD's current grade). You'll need to talk to the teacher but at my DD's school it means assisting the teacher in planning two class parties for the year and recruiting parents for assistance with things such as field trips and other school activities where volunteers are needed. Typically in our school there is a "lead" room parent with a couple of other helpers. We have tons of parental involvement in the school, thankfully. :)

It's been several years since I was a room mother, but I did it for both my children when they were little and loved it. We usually had 4-6 room mothers in each class and we were responsible for planning the holiday parties and going on the field trips. That's about all I remember doing.

I'm not a room mom but I'm the PTO president this year ( What was I thinking?!?!?!)
At our school there are 2-5 room moms per room. They plan 3 parties (one hour long each and the PTO supplies a specified amount of money) for the year and get parents to "work the room" during Fun Night.
When talking to friends I've noticed a big difference in what is expected of the room parents. Each school, and each teacher, has different ideas of what they should do. I'd ask the teacher what she expects. Are there any other room moms from your room to work with you?
Oh, and thanks for helping at your child's school! You gained major brownie points from me!!;)
Agh! I just noticed you said preschool. Sorry! We didn't have room moms at the preschool my children went to, but I think I'd still talk to the teacher.

Thanks for responses. I guess I will have to wait to talk with the teacher to see what she expects. I really am willing to do anything, although I don't know how well the twins and Kayd will handle all of it! If anything, I will be able to talk with the teacher more and really be involved with DD's class!
