Room locations requests question

If you don't do a specific room request when you make your reservation, is there another "best time" to do them. Also any thoughts on whether general or specific is better?
We were at OKW in October and our room backed up to the highway. while normally there's probably alot of foliage blocking the view of highway, with the hurricanes it was like being right beside the road. We really aren't that fussy, but definitely do not want to look at a highway for our stay next month. Am I better off to pick a couple buildings that I think won't have a view of the highway and request those? or just request non-highway view (non smoking)
We won't be able to check in until around 3PM.
How specific are your requests?

Asking for a specific room is a sure way to end up disappointed. The odds against getting a specific room are high. Better to go with a couple of general requests and some knowledge of the resort. If they give you a room on a floor or in a section that you don't like, you could nicely ask them if anything else is available.

I have never stayed at OKW so I can't help you with what requests should be made. Good luck.

OKW is a big place, and your best bet is to make very general requests. If the highway is your main concern, then just make that request. Most folks will request things like near a bus stop, near a pool, near a specific area etc. or 1st floor or top floor etc. That way, you will be less likely to be disappointed. We usually request near South Point bus stop or pool.

It doesn't matter when you add your requests to your reservation, there is no priority for earlier requests. I would get them in at least a week before.

I agree that general requests are better. If you say building 26 and that building is full, they have no idea why you requested it and will put you anywhere. I would just say "away from the highway".

Many times at OKW they don't pre-block rooms, so your room will not be assigned until you are checking in. So repeat your requests then.

Maybe you should ask for a water view or golf course view.
