Room Keys-Charging - ?

I've searched the boards and can't seem to find an answer to my question . I know I've read this somewhere on these boards and can't find it!! I'm not even sure it should be asked on the resort board?!
I would like to put down cash for room key charging instead of a credit card. Is this possible? Thanks for any help!

My sister in law has done this in the past. We checked into the Poly today though and they did not give us the option to do that. I didn't ask though. She has done it at Shades Of Green several times though, so maybe it is a military thing. I will try to find out tomorrow because we are here right now. I'll post if I find any information.

I believe you can, although you will only be allows to charge up to the amount of your cash deposit. You may also hold the charge on a card and then go pay cash before checkout- do it the night before you leave. It may take a few days for the credit hold to fall off of your card though.

We're a no card family too! No charging in 4 years and three months. I use my debit card for the credit hold. I then use the room key to pay for EVERYTHING! The credit hold was for $1000 and we spent about $900 so it wasn't taking away from anything to have the funds held. We were sure move a lump sum out of savings and into checking before we went just to give us a cushion. We never touched the savings and put it right back when we got home. I love using the key card to charge. On our last trip we stayed off site at Windsor Hills and had to pay "real money" for everything. It was not nearly as relaxing!

You can use cash or travelers checks (we use TC) as opposed to a CC with no problems.

I don't think they ever put a CC on our account when we said we wanted charging priv.'s. We just told them we wanted to use the TC's instead and they put them on as a credit. My DH got a printout every couple days from the front desk so we knew where we were $$ wise and if we needed to put more on we did. It is so nice checking out the last day and either end up being dead on or getting a couple bucks back. MUCH better than the poor guy in front of us once. He was checking out and went through 2 CC's to be able to pay off his charges !!!! NO WAY would I ever do that!

We are a no CC family now as well....except for the Disney Visa. We use that for everything but pay it off every month to get the points. It paid for almost all of our dining last trip!

That's good to know. I've always used TCs in the past because I like the fact that they can be replaced if they're lost or stolen and because I can spread out the purchase before the trip as well as not have a big cc bill (or a big hit on my checking account balance if I use my debit card) when I get home, but I will concede that they're not the easiest payment method to use. I'm going to try that next time I go! :

I asked this question about doing it at the POP and the lady told me I could just go to the desk and tell them I would like to use my room key to charge and then put down however much cash I wanted to use and I could do it that way instead of a cc charge.

I dont see us needing much cash since we are doing the dp and everything is already paid for but we are driving and my dh likes to have extra in case of an emergency.

I agree! We do bring the bare minimum of cash...seriously like $100 to use for tolls, tipping at the airport, and ice creams/whatnot in the parks. Everything else is charged to the room.

The TC's may take a little longer to put on your account since you have to sign them, but the peace of mind that they're replaceable is SO worth the time it takes to sign them!

As stated, yes, you can surely do this, IF you get a CM like I did that said you cant, kindly ask them to check with someone higher up, and they will find out the truth .
