Room Key and AP - Can they combine?

We leave in nine days (woohoo) for our first trip home, and only second trip to WDW. On our first trip we stayed at the Beach Club Resort (try paying for TWO hotel rooms cash at the deluxe resorts and it won't take long to see the value of a 2BR villa at DVC!).

At the Beach Club our room key was also our park hopper ticket- they called it the key to the kingdom I think. We've got a bulging envelope of Disney stuff to bring this time: Magical Express vouchers, luggage tags, Disney Dining Experience Cards, 5 exchange vouchers for AP's, 5 tickets for MVMCP on the 20th, reservation confirmation letters, etc.

Can our room keys be programmed to act as our APs, or vice versa on this trip? If so, who do we ask at the resort / park to get this done. Thanks DVC wizards.

Also, we'd like to give the two older kids (teenagers) their own room key / park tickets, so they can have some freedom-- but if they were lost can the be replaced easily?

No an AP is separate from the room key and does not expire for one year. They are the papery kind not the hard card, like your room key.

If you are afraid of them losing their keys don't get charging privs put on them. As far as AP's with ID they are not a problem to replace.

Okay thanks. I like the credit card like tickets we had before, seemed quite durable, our exchange vouchers are tough plastic cards but they're clearly temporary.

I guess separate keys and tickets is fine, but it was a neat trick that they combined them before. Can't wait to get there... my family needs a vacation!

Room keys are also easy to replace at the front desk. Now that individual names are on the cards like the good old days, only the missing card needs to be replaced.

Lost APs have to be replaced at the same places you can redeem the vouchers.
